Mark Zuckerberg is the buyer of the most expensive home sold in DC so far this year, according to Politico. (Last year the most expensive house sold in DC was Brett Baier's home which sold to the new Secretary of Commerce for $25M cash.)
Politico is reporting that Zuckerberg purchased a home in Massachusetts Avenue Heights near Embassy Row in early March for $23 million. At the time, UrbanTurf briefly reported on the sale as there wasn't much information about the house and listing agent Daniel Heider with TTR Sotheby's did not respond to requests for comment.
The home technically went on the market on Monday, March 4, 2025, went under contract on Tuesday March 5 and then closed on Wednesday, March 6. The home sold off-market (likely for all-cash), but was entered into the multiple listing service (MLS) so the sale could be publicly recorded.
A home at the address sold back in 2013, but a new house looks to have been built in its place between 2015-2017. The public records show that the home was owned through an LLC and purchased through another LLC. The home is about 16,000 square feet of finished living space on 4 levels with a private pool slightly more than an acre of land.
The listing is located not far from the DC residence for PayPal founder Peter Thiel and joins a number of high-priced listings to have sold in this upscale area in the past few years.
In case you are interested, Jeff Bezos owns a property with two structures (the Pope House and the Wood House) in Kalorama off Massachusetts Avenue. This property previously was the Textile Museum for nearly a century. Bezos purchased that property for $23 million in 2016 and was said to have spent $12 million to renovate the homes and the surrounding property.
While the property doesn't appear to offer much privacy in the front, it does have 27,000 square feet of living space and a spacious backyard. The larger of the two homes, the Wood House, will be for entertaining guests, while the Pope House will serve as the family's living quarters when they're in town, The home is supposed to have 11 bedrooms, 25 bathrooms, a whiskey cellar, elevators, a ballroom and a garden room.
