Do you Print a Copy of the Listings for your Buyers?

By
Industry Observer DRE# ER40011786

Do you provide a copy of the MLS listing when you show homes to your buyers?     I was having this discussion with another REALTOR the other day, and they said they never print off these sheets.

So, just so I know if I am totally wasting paper, I asked two of my current buyers if they appreciate those pages or if I should stop printing them.    My first couple is in their early 40's and the other in their mid 20s, and BOTH families said they do keep them and make notes to keep track of the features they liked (or disliked).

I know I would really prefer to use less paper (and print cartridges) and can go through a ream of paper in a week, but want to provide the right stuff for my clients, whether they are the seller or the buyer.

My listing presentations were always paper, and then the whole "let's be green" was popular, so I made a PowerPoint presentation and emailed the seller prior to arrival.    She asked me if that computer was going to sell her home.  (BTW, I lost that listing....)    Now, this was 5 years ago, but have tried this again, and was not received well.    I want my clients to know I am a bit techie, but the bottom line is I want them to feel comfortable with me and my services and have gone back to my paper presentation.   Even doing a presentation to the out-of-state seller, I sent her .pdf pages for us to go over.   I know a few agents that their entire listing presentation is completely digital.

Bottom line --- I will continue to buy reams of paper if it makes my clients comfortable with my services!

P.S.  that IS NOT my desk, and would NEVER look like that, or I wouldn't be able to work!  😋  The chair does, though!

yes I do, and a pen so they can make notes if they want. something they can use to review when they get home.

Joan- the title to your blog got my attention. I have always wondered what practice other realtors utilize when showing properties.  Before I became a realtor, I don't recall any of the realtors that showed me property providing me with hard copies (around the year 2000).  What do I do?  it depends on my clients age but 99% of the time, I provide the MLS copy when I meet them along with a spread sheet. As many commented, buyers like to make notes on the hard copies.

When I provided a hard copy of the excel spread sheet. The list on the spreadsheet is composed in chronical order.  The nice thing about the spread sheet, I begin to see that they begin to prioritize their favorites and eliminates the ones they will definitely not consider.  I have found the spreadsheet  very beneficial.

It all depends...I always send an MLS link to the properties we will be looking at.  I'll print them if we're seeing 3 or more, but if it's just one or two properties I usually just refer to the link.

My short answer is that it all depends.  I used to religiously, now I just print out a summary of all the details.  just one sheet or paper with all my contact information on it as well   Of course.

GOOD QUESTION!

Back in the old days, the only was a buyer got an mls sheet was if I provided it. And I did.

Now, I send them a digital copy or they are the ones to tell me about the listing because they saw it on Zillow or some other digital platform. I am not going to print out one of those for them but I will look up those listings in the mls to verify they are legit and print a copy for me and for them if showing the property.

Face to face with a seller or buyer, we always use printed information that can be left behind.

With buyers I generally hand them the pages as we enter each house, generally they appreciate the pages as you said to take notes. I have tried the digital listing presentation and found it not helpful. People like something they can look at and understand, keep it simple is right for a reason.

Hi Joan Cox , I liked your idea to check with clients, especially younger ones, if they liked the paper copies. I usually have a paper printout of the listing, too. I noticed that if I did not print a copy of the MLS printout clients asked me to peek in my hard copy, and that was my prompt to have a copy for them, too, when we were touring listings.

I only print after they have been to the property.  IF they want to return for a 2nd look, I will print the listing and supplements.  NO to printing everything they think they are interested in.

I provide my clients with email copies of disclosures, and listing information along with my Buyer Rep agreement which I also send for signatures via Docusign prior to the actual showing appointment.  The day of the showing I provide them with hard copies of all. I write any questions they have on my copies for follow up and for my files.   When  I write a contract in person they receive hard copy of what they have signed that we are going to present, if we use Docusign they have the digital copy once signed.  A copy of everything goes in my digital files as well as my hard files.  Trying to cover all the bases!  Have a brilliant Monday!

Joan Cox to print or not to print, it all depends on the age of the buyer. I used to print more way back about fifteen years ago. Most now like it when I send to them via email.

Since I am mostly a listing agent, the need is very rare.

Joan Cox ,

I like paper.  Some people think everything needs to be digital.

What happens if the systems crash???

I email them the MLS listings in order prior to the showing. That way they have them. I also take them on my tablet and open the file from home so it's available.

I also tell buyers to bring their buyer notepad, something to write with, and I take something to measure with.

It works well.
