Rule #5 for writing real estate prospecting letters - Never be pushy.
Remember the old adage about the folly of asking someone to marry you on the first date.
Pushing for a listing too soon is a similar folly. Most of us don't like to be pushed, so when someone pushes us, we push back - and push them away!
Instead of pushiness, give homeowners good information. Show them how you can help, and offer to do so, but don’t annoy them by being pushy.
Whatever you do, never be rude. Never assume that they owed you a reply to any of your letters.
I sometimes get email from people saying things like "I've written you twice now and you haven't answered me! Take time today to reply." What?? If I'd wanted to answer, I'd have answered. Once in a while, if I'm in less than a terrific mood, I actually write back and tell them so.
Some of that comes in the mail as well. Yesterday I got a fundraising letter with the notation "Remit immediately." Had I considered making a donation, that would have changed my mind.
While content is king, consistency is queen, so keep right on being cheerful and offering to help.
