Way is such a simple word with basically two meanings (Oxford Language):
- A method, style, or manner of doing something
- A road, track, path or street traveling along
These two meanings came back to me as I read this unfamiliar quote by Miyamoto Mushashi (Japanese swordsman, strategist, artist and writer of The Book of Five Rings).
“If you know the Way broadly,
you will see it in everything.”
My somewhat philosophical mind started traveling down many paths almost simultaneously. Was Mushashi thinking a method or a path?
For me I have a certain manner of handling or process for potential real estate transactions be those transactions from sellers or buyers. Over time this way has evolved and continues to evolve which for me reaffirms knowing the “WAY broadly, you will see it in everything.”
Additionally, since I believe in focusing on what I can control, though sometimes I am amused by others, I stay on my predetermined path that is never a straight line. Usually there are with expected and unexpected side paths. Often, my path looks like a mountain switchback road with numerous side paths.
Then sometimes I envision myself as a traveler's whose path includes a bridge that connects “SEA” level which daily life happens and “SEE” level the 30,000 ft. where reflection happens. Sometimes there are multiple bridges. I may walk between these two points slowly and other times I am almost running.
"Travelers, there is no path, paths are made by walking."
Antonio Machado
For me, Mushashi quote is very much connected to personal and professional success. This does not mean one must accept everything one encounters in her or his path or paths. What it does mean for me, is to stay focused on the desired end results. Those results are our success both personally and professionally
"Life’s all about choices. Everyone’s destination is the same;
only the paths are different."
Sushmita Sen
Yes, knowing the WAY is important and you can see life a little differently.
If you change the way you look at things,
the thing you look at will change.
Wayne Dyer
P.S. I just ordered The Book of Five Rings.
