I love Florida and even in the dog days of summer but your attic might not! When I sell a home to somebody from the “North” I tell them to not store their Christmas candles in the attic because if you do you will have a melted candle. Temperatures in a Florida attic can be 130 to 150 degrees which means your ceiling can be hot so there goes your cooling cost up. Most homes here have roof vents but that might not be enough you might want to consider a solar powered roof fan. You will need to check but on one website they were talking a 30% tax credit if you installed them.
What happens when hot moist air hits cool air besides thunderstorms? The moisture in the hot air turns to liquid and that is happening right above your ceiling in your installation, not good in the long run. Some homes here in The Villages have screens on their garage and folks will pull down the attic ladders in the garage in the evening to help move the heated air out of the attic.
Another option is a radiant barrier here is a quote from the U.S. Department of Energy: It is generally accepted that installing radiant barrier in the attic will reduce heat gain through the ceiling by 40% typically leading up to a 17% reduction on heating and cooling utility bills.
I suggest you do some research on the benefits and cost of solar powered attic fans and radiant barriers they have all types of stats on energy saving.
