The Best is on the Way.

Spring selling season normally starts in March/April, depending on how severe the winter has treated us here in north central Illinois. This winter of 2024-2025 was mild in the view of most people. I personally only used my John Deere 6 forward 2 reverse electric start snowblower twice. The rest of the winter there wasn't enough snow to use the snowblower, the snow shovel was just fine.

We had some hints that there would be a very busy spring season based on how February went. We inspected 7 more homes in 2025 than 2024 and our average inspection fee increased $72 due to the addition of in house radon testing and sewer scope services. March was no different with similar increases in number of inspections and similar average inspection fee compared to 2024.

With this in mind, we were optimistic for what April would bring. Since I started SLS Home Inspections in 2007, I had always been a numbers tracker. The numbers never lie and what February and March were telling us was be ready for some very busy weeks. We had no idea how busy that would be, but as of Sunday 4/13, we are dramatically ahead of April 2024.SLS Home Inspections Vehicle

When I started the company, I was so thrilled to have 2 inspection in a single day, maybe once or twice a week. The numbers now are pretty mind boggling for a 2 inspector team. We are scheduling 3-4 per day on a regular basis, and have had a couple times with 5 or 6 in one day and maintained the increased average inspection fee. Add some additional radon and sewer scope inspections on top of the regular home inspection and that adds up to a very profitable week. The other nice benefit of this additional business is that we have seen our Google 5 star reviews jumping up by several every week. That's so helpful for buyers trying to make a decision about who to use for their inspection. If this month continues as we are expecting, it should be the first of many "Busiest Month Ever" records that will be set.

Hello Scott - your mentioning of somewhat severe weather conditions rekindles how nature plays an important role in our lives.  Let alone plants err plans.  Life continues - hopefully growing does as well.

Scott Seaton Jr. SLS Home Insp - I love the Feature Photo that you created! It is absolutely beautiful! I also like the photo of the Poppy and the blossoms peeking through the branches!

Customers don't like when prices go up, but you give a good reason for the increase due to the new guidelines for Inspectors for "in house radon testing and sewer scope services." When you're honest and level with people, they are more likely to trust you. I can't stand going to the same grocery stores and seeing prices go up just about every day with no explanation.

I really respect you and how you conduct business. More business owners should be like you.

Oddly. we just had an agent tell us that we were too pushy with the extra services we were now offering. We offered them for about 5 years, the only difference is that we're now doing them in house, which is helping our company, not the other company.

The only thing we do is send them an email listing the benefits of the other services. They can add them or decline.

Scott Seaton Jr. SLS Home Insp - I had to deal with some bossy agents myself. They were arrogant, not nice, thought they knew every and nobody else was good enough to be in the business except them. Lesson learned: Stay away from toxic people.

Time and time again I heard from Real Estate Leadership at the State level, stay in your own lane. That agent who told you that you were too pushy is in the wrong lane!
