Activities Coming in Leisure World of Maryland April 17 - 30, 2025

 

Here are some activities and events all residents can look forward to in the next two weeks.

MOVIE: ‘THE FORGE’ 
Thursday, April 17, at 1:30 p.m., Clubhouse II Auditorium 
This film follows a young man’s journey to rebuild his life and faith after hitting rock bottom. Free, but registration is required at the Lifestyle office in either Clubhouse I or Clubhouse II. 

GRILLE MUSIC         
Friday, April 18, from 7-10 p.m., Clubhouse I Grille       
Flower Avenue blooms with a vibrant mix of original tunes, pop, R&B, and timeless classics that keep the good vibes flowing. Enjoy appetizers and dinner from the kitchen, accompanied by your picks from the fantastic wine, whiskey and cocktails menu.    

EASTER EGG HUNT 
Saturday, April 19, from 10 a.m-2 p.m., Clubhouse I  
Enjoy an afternoon of family-friendly fun featuring age-grouped egg hunts, crafts, face painting, live music, games, and a photo booth with the Easter Bunny. NOTE: Registration is closed. 

GRILLE MUSIC         
Saturday, April 19, from 7-10 p.m., Clubhouse I Grille       
Boogie Lou brings a jet fueled tour de force of Rock, Funk, and Rhythm & Blues with a PhD in partying! Enjoy appetizers and dinner from the kitchen, accompanied by your picks from the fantastic wine, whiskey and cocktails menu.    

TRAVEL STORIES FROM VENICE 
Monday, April 21, at 11 a.m., Clubhouse II Auditorium  
Join storyteller and world traveler Michael Borin for a captivating journey through the canals and charm of Venice, as he shares unforgettable stories from his time in the iconic city. Free, but registration is required by calling or stopping by the Lifestyle office of either clubhouse. 

LGBT EXHIBIT 
Tuesday, April 22, at 2 p.m., Clubhouse I 
Dr. Sarah A. Leavitt, director of curatorial affairs at the Lillian and Albert Small Capital Jewish Museum, offers a behind-the-scenes look at the museum’s groundbreaking new exhibit exploring the intersection of Washington, D.C., Jewish history and LGBTQ+ activism. Sponsored by Jewish Residents of Leisure World. 

PET EXPO 
Wednesday, April 23, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m., Clubhouse II near the tennis courts 
The Emergency Preparedness Committee hosts its annual Pet Preparedness Expo with live demos, dog training, a vet Q&A, giveaways, drawings, a food truck and a fun, free photo booth for pets and people. Sponsored by the Emergency Preparedness Committee. Free; no registration required. 

MOVIE: ‘THE CASE FOR HEAVEN’ 
Wednesday, April 23, at 1:30 p.m., Clubhouse II Auditorium 
Based on the work by best-selling author Lee Strobel, the film delves into near-death experiences, faith and scientific insights to explore one of life’s biggest questions—what happens after we die? Free, but registration is required at the Lifestyle office in either Clubhouse I or Clubhouse II. 

‘PROTECTION FROM SWEETHEART SCAMS’ 
Thursday, April 24, at 2 p.m., Clubhouse II Auditorium 
Learn how to spot and avoid romance scams targeting older adults. Free, but registration is required at the Lifestyle office in either Clubhouse I or Clubhouse II. 

ARBOR DAY PLANTING  
Friday, April 25, at 10 a.m., Clubhouse I 
Join the Garden and Environmental Club as they celebrate Arbor Day with a program featuring a presentation by McFall and Berry, a commemorative video, and the planting of the Club’s annual tree.  

HAPPY HOUR  
Friday, April 25, from 5-7 p.m., Clubhouse I Ballroom 
Celebrate good times as “DJ Stan the Man” spins tunes. Bring your own snacks, or purchase food from the restaurant. A cash bar will be available. Admission is free. 

GRILLE MUSIC          
Friday, April 25, from 7-10 p.m., Clubhouse I Grille        
Take a semi-acoustic trip with 2nd Sole Band, who play everything from rock to blues to Motown. Enjoy appetizers and dinner from the kitchen, accompanied by your picks from the fantastic wine, whiskey and cocktails menu.     

PRESCRIPTION DRUG TAKE BACK 
Saturday, April 26, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Medical Center Parking Lot (Drive-By Event) 
Safely dispose of your expired or unwanted medications. Help prevent accidental misuse and protect the environment—no need to exit your car. Pills can be brought in original containers or placed in a plastic bag for anonymity. Sponsored by the Health Committee. Free, no registration required.  

JAZZ PERFORMERS 
Saturday, April 26, at 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., Clubhouse II Auditorium 
Celebrate the music of Ella Fitzgerald with vocalist Christiana Drapkin and enjoy a dynamic jazz set from saxophonist Paul Carr, both Leisure World residents and standout local performers. Tickets are $15 for one show and $25 for both. They are available for purchase at the Lifestyle office of either clubhouse. 

BALLROOM DANCE 
Saturday, April 26, from 7-10 p.m., Clubhouse I Crystal Ballroom 
Dance the night away with excellent music specially selected by DJ Amy Costanzo. Sponsored by the Ballroom Dance Club. Advance registration required; payment is $15 at the door.   

‘SMALL BITES & TRAVEL SITES’ 
Sunday, April 27, at 2 p.m., Clubhouse I 
Join the Italian Social and Cultural Club for a scenic afternoon as they present “Visions of Italy,” a one-hour PBS-produced video showcasing the beauty of the Italian countryside and coastlines. Sponsored by the Italian Social and Cultural Club. The cost to attend is $32 for members and $35 for nonmembers. Reservations are required by Wednesday, April 23.  Mail a check, payable to the Italian Social and Cultural Club, to (Barbara Kaminski, 15107 Interlachen Dr., Apt. 324, Silver Spring, MD 20902). 

YOUTH JAZZ SHOWCASE 
Sunday, April 27, at 2:30 p.m., 3:30 p.m., and 4:30 p.m., Clubhouse II Auditorium 
Enjoy an afternoon of exceptional jazz by talented local youth ensembles, including the Blues Alley Youth Orchestra, Bethesda Blues and Jazz Youth Orchestra, and the Paul Carr Jazz Academy. The event is free, but registration is required at the Lifestyle office of either clubhouse. Donations are accepted with cash or check. 

BALTIMORE MUSICALES 
Sunday, April 27, at 3:30 p.m., Inter-Faith Chapel 
Celebrate the life and music of Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel, a brilliant composer who hosted legendary musicales in 1830s Berlin, with a program featuring works by Hensel, Clara and Robert Schumann, Franz Liszt, and others. Sponsored by The Inter-Faith Chapel. Tickets are $20, available online at www.baltimoremusicales.org or at the door (cash or check payable to Baltimore Musicales). 

HUMAN SOUNDS AND WILDLIFE 
Monday, April 28, at 2 p.m., Clubhouse II Auditorium 
Join resident Dr. Arthur N. Popper for an insightful discussion on how human-generated noise—especially in marine environments—affects wildlife and people, and what can be done to mitigate its impacts while balancing societal progress. Sponsored by Center for Lifelong Learning. Free, but registration is required by calling or stopping by the Lifestyle office of either clubhouse. 

FUN & FANCY TICKET SALES 
Monday, April 28-Friday, May 2, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Clubhouse II Lobby 
Fun and Fancy holds ticket sales for their Spring comedy, Neil Simon’s “California Suite,” a play in four parts that concerns visitors to a hotel in Los Angeles with different stories to tell. Tickets are $10 (cash or check, payable to Fun and Fancy) and will also be sold at the Auditorium door starting one hour before showtimes. 

MACY’S SPA DAY 
Tuesday, April 29, from 11 a.m.-3 p.m., Clubhouse I Crystal Ballroom 
Join Macy’s at Westfield Mall for a rejuvenating day of skincare education, beauty demos, exclusive discounts, and pampering facials featuring brands like Dior, Estée Lauder and Lancôm. Free, but registration is required and available by calling or stopping by the Lifestyle office of either clubhouse. Note: Facials and other services are limited and first come first served. 

AUTHOR TALK 
Tuesday, April 29, at 2 p.m., Clubhouse I 
Join Kimberly Heckler as she shares insights from her debut book, “A Woman of Firsts: Margaret Heckler, Political Trailblazer,” offering a compelling look at her mother-in-law’s groundbreaking political legacy and service under five U.S. presidents. Sponsored by Rossmoor Library. Free; no registration required. 

BIG BAND SHOW 
Tuesday, April 29, at 7 p.m., Clubhouse I Crystal Ballroom 
Travel back to the golden age of swing as Jerry Ryan and Chris Katz perform iconic hits from the Big Band era, with classics by Glenn Miller, Cab Calloway, Artie Shaw and more. Tickets are $12 and available by calling or visiting the Lifestyle office of either clubhouse. 

MOVIE: ‘THE GIRL WHO BELIEVES IN MIRACLES’ 
Wednesday, April 30, at 1:30 p.m., Clubhouse II Auditorium  
This film showcases a young girl’s unwavering faith that leads to a series of miraculous events that challenge the beliefs of an entire town. Free, but registration is required at the Lifestyle office in either Clubhouse I or Clubhouse II. 

TEA & FASHION SHOW 
Wednesday, April 30, at 2 p.m., Clubhouse I 
Celebrate spring in style with refreshments and a fashion show featuring the latest seasonal looks from Chico’s, all while supporting a great cause—proceeds benefit the new Gandel Rehabilitation Center in Jerusalem. Sponsored by Hadassah. Reserve your seat with an $18 donation by Friday, April 25. Mail checks, payable to Hadassah, to Sandy Stein  (607 Cannon Rd., Silver Spring, MD 20904), or place them in the Hadassah mailbox in the Lifestyle office of Clubhouse I.

So many wonderful activities in Leisure World!  I see quite a few that I would enjoy participating in and also a few that I would stay away from, haha.
