In The Weeds. . .

Thinking of idioms can be fertile ground for my imagination.  Searching for real world relevance remains more than a rabbit hole adventure for my wandering and curious mind.

f

The dynamics of thought and randomness continue to feed my interest. Meanwhile as jellybeans and assorted goodies were tempting my taste buds this weekend, I tried to resist such provocations. Emphasis on "try" clutters my brain. Some thinning of personal yardage plays a part of a maintenance program that is out-of-control on occasion.

C0mbinations of food for thought as well as other seductive offerings can be a fourteen-carat opportunities.

This garden-infused themed post attempts to pull together many sorts of things.  And, yes, pondering can be invasive at times. In a foolish way. Let it grow. Let it grow.

I think we are all excited about the arrival of Spring Michael Jacobs to the point we want to sing and rhyme. 😊

BTW we did have jelly beans in the house and I managed to avoid eating any HOWEVER I had enough malted-milk ball eggs that I need to walk them off all week now.

Bob "RealMan" Timm - we have experienced springtime in multiple ways in Southern California so far this year.  Signs of summer have stopped some in their tracks too.  We shall see what else will occur this season.

Hmm, now I am wondering how many jelly beans you had over the weekend, haha.  I can't even remember the last time that I had a jelly bean, although I see some sitting in my candy jar, haha.

Brian England - besides the part of a jellybean atop a cookie mentioned in my reply to the comment by Nina Hollander, Broker where no intentional jellybean scavenger techniques were included in my weekend.  I hope yours was enjoyable.

No jelly beans or other Easter treats at our home to tempt us this weekend (or for that matter for the last month).  Trying to drop some weight that has crept up (and up and up) over the years.  It's working, but the temptation to have a cookie is still strong :)

Bill Liz and Bill Spear - long before that Sesame Street Monster made it famous (infamous), cookies remain a downfall.  I will resist.  I will resist.  I will resist.

I LOVE a good cookie :)  They're probably my source of many of those extra calories.

Michael, I bought no Easter candy, so no tempting, but I do enjoy a good jelly bean.   Haven't had any for years though.   Great post to sum up Easter!

I was once a great advocate of good for thought but have found with the years that the soil to grow these thoughts seems to have lost a lot of its productiveness.

Good Monday morning, Michael.

Keep planting those seeds and watch your imagination grow.

Have an outstanding week.

I love reading your posts while exercising my brain!   So what is your favorite jelly bean flavor?  Starburst jelly beans are irresistible, especially the pale green ones- sour apple!

Apr 21, 2025 10:13 AM

Jan Green - Scottsdale, AZ - I know the world of jellybeans continues to expand much as my time on this planet increases.  Admittedly, my taste testing of them has been limited.  I am sure other expert opinions will weigh in with their preferences.  I tend to flavor my comments in other ways.  Pun Alert - even if the slightest nuance may go unnoticed.  Happy Monday.

Thanks for sharing your creative musings, Michael Jacobs! Your unique take on idioms and personal reflections makes for a delightful read. I love how you weave together food for thought and gardening—it's a great reminder to let our ideas flourish, even if they sometimes feel a bit weedy!

Lew Corcoran - flourish, flounder and many sorts of "f" words can be used to describe gardening attempts.  Thank you for the comment.

Hi Michael- I hope you had a good weekend. But, did you have to begin your Monday ponderings with food??? I managed to control myself until last night before eatingone Peanut M&M. I'm not a huge jelly bean eater. However I had more than enough sweets to make me regret my lack of control yesterday.

Kathy Streib - at one of the get togethers I attended this weekend, there was a discussion about Peeps, the candy.  Talk about a controversial table conversation.

Jelly Beans.....wow I haven't thought about those little guys in years Michael.  I'm not much into sweets so there wasn't any candy of Easter treats in our house.  But oh my, dinner was fabulous......grilled prime fillets.  Way better than chocolate don't you think!

Anna "Banana" Kruchten - there were multiple opportunities to indulge and overindulge this weekend.  Thankfully, I was accompanied by a long-lost pal, Self-Control.   Yes, your menu choice sounds quite appetizing.

Hello Michael,

The epic battle between our thirst for knowledge and jellybeans is a clash for the ages! Resisting sugary temptations is like doing yoga on a trampoline—noble but probably futile. Perhaps the jellybeans’ “personal yardage thinning” is their way of aiding your fitness goals.

A mix of pondering life’s mysteries and sweet treats may be the secret to staying fabulously human!

Michael Jacobs - That’s the outcome of being an “Old Bird Dame.” I’ve been dabbling in the art of wielding words I seldom dust off, and barely understand. I figured if anyone could “catch my drift,” it would undoubtedly be You!

Aura Alex - you have taken me to the mat with your mental gymnastic way with words.   Score!

Michael Jacobs - your blog post and comments this season are a sweet treat! Also, I appreciate your vivid imagination! Your writing skills invited me up a delightful and colorful garden path. And as my mind wonders, I have been inspired to try to paint that last photo you shared. Since my attention to details in drawings or attempting to paint are childish and pale in comparison to the Master of Art I think I could accomplish something like that on canvas.

One of these days, I'm going to nip it the bud and paint something that is fun without difficulty and if I succeed, I'll let you know! And of course, I'll have you to thank!

Patricia Feager - good luck as your artistic/creative journey continues.  AR posts as well as comments are interconnected and interrelated in many ways.  It's a unique social media platform in that way.

Hi Michael, It sounds like those colored jelly beans are going to lose their vibrant but artificial coloring soon. I hope you approve of the replacement.

Any peeps at your house for Easter (the Easter treats, not people)? We were good - no Easter goodies at all, but then the grandkids weren't around, sadly. Hope it was a nice holiday weekend!

Call a Marana neighbor, I'm THERE!

As a young mother, I had to purchase the holiday candy items JUST before the actual occasion.  I was a sucker for, and still am, malted milk balls or my fav, Milk Duds.

Cara Marcelle Mancuso - while we didn't have much candy as children, Easter saw our baskets filled with some goodies.  Perhaps my mom's favorites too.
