Friday Fun…Real or Plastic?

Many families are observing a holiday this weekend. For some, Sunday at sundown marks the end of Passover.  For most Christians, it celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

And for some, it is an opportunity to be with family and friends…to share a meal…and …

To Hunt for Easter Eggs!

Without diminishing the religious or spiritual importance of this day, it IS Friday, so time for some fun.

Does anyone here still dye eggs for Easter?

Growing up, dying Easter eggs was as much fun as hunting them.  We used the Paas Easter egg dye kit. To make it, just add boiling water and vinegar to a cup and then the tablet.

Fast forward, and now we hide plastic eggs filled with coins and candy. I, for one, like hiding plastic eggs!

~Have you ever found a real hard-boiled egg in your yard 2 months after Easter??

~No one wants the hard-boiled eggs after the hunt!!! You can’t give them away! By Easter, they’ve had enough eggs, egg salad, and deviled eggs!!

So, for some Friday Fun…what about you?

Real or plastic Easter eggs???

Kathy, It was always plastic, reusable eggs. We would hide candy, toys, stickers, riddles for bigger surprises. Always fun and no mess!

Hello Kathy - I can't recall the last time I dyed an egg.  However, I have been invited to two Easter celebrations so I imagine there will be some tossed, rolled, hidden and maybe a few consumed at these events.  Did someone say chocolate-filled too?

Michael Jacobs I have a chocolate bunny filled with candy. The children love breaking it open with a small hammer. The adults hang around and grab for pieces too.

Good morning, Kathy... living most of my life in large cities, we never had Easter eggs hunts. I did used to dye eggs for Easter, but now for the two of us, I don't bother any more. I just decorate my house and yard for Easter.

Kathy Streib that's fun idea, Kathy. I have artificial colored eggs all over the house for Easter... but not plastic.

Nina Hollander, Broker I remember the Easter eggs hunts when I was younger. Now, I fill a few vases with the plastic eggs and put flowers in them.

Good morning Kathy. At the price of real eggs this year most are opting for the plastic ones available cheap at the Dollar stores. Is this the new trend? We'll see. Enjoy your day.

Wayne Martin I love plastic eggs because they're reusable.  We use very few eggs these days but the prices have come down a bit. (like a little)

I have not colored eggs in years (since my boy was little). We need to take out a mortgage to do a couple dozen eggs in 2025.

We used to use plastic easter eggs, the boys loved the hunt, sometimes a candy sometimes a dime or nickel or if very lucky a quarter.

Nick Vandekar, 610-203-4543  the children love finding the coins in the eggs. One year, Larry baked foil wrapped coins in rolls he made. The rolls were only at the children's table and we made sure they know not to swallow the whole roll! LOL

Kathy, while my daughter was growing up, we always dyed Easter eggs, and I enjoyed that too.   Seeing how much creativity you could come up with was fun.

Joan Cox I agree. That's always fun...letting the children make any color or design they wanted.

When I was a kid, we did dye eggs but I have not done so since then.

My preference was the chocolate eggs with coconut centers.

Roy Kelley I always like jelly beans. I know that some of the children in the family like any chocolate egg or bunny.

Kathy:

We've dyed lots of hard boiled eggs over the years with our 2 daughters and now the grandkids. But no grandkids visiting this year so no egg dyeing or egg hunts. We will probably pull out the wooden (painted) and plastic eggs for an Easter Dinner centerpiece but likely won't do any other decorating.

Thanks, Kathy Streib! I love the nostalgia of dyeing real eggs—nothing beats the fun of that messy tradition! I have to agree, I much prefer the real deal over plastic when it comes to Easter eggs!

Lew Corcoran I meant to Google when plastic eggs "emerged" in our country. Many parents love them, I'm sure.

I haven't thought about dying Easter Eggs in many years Kathy!  I used to love doing it as a kid and it was my 'job' to decorate a 'bunny tree'.  My Mom got me started on that and it went on for many years.......lots of good memories!!  Hop to it!

Anna "Banana" Kruchten I thought about making a bunny cake this year but I have too many other things I'm making. We may have to put "crime scene" tape in the backyard around the bird house if she starts laying this weekend. Need to make sure the kids stay away from the box.

Kathy Streib - I have fond memories of coloring Easter Eggs at my mom's kitchen table with my siblings. It was fun dipping the eggs in different colors and using wax to write something on the egg. That's how I celebrated the holiday with my kids too!

Thanks for the memories!

I can't even remember the last time that I dyed eggs, but I did see a good article from the Weston A Price Foundation about using natural dyes, haha.
