Photo Journalism - Saving the Easter Bunny
A long time ago, and several days (or weeks) before Easter Sunday, my children (both very young at the time) found three baby bunnies in the grass. Two were dead and one was alive. We looked all around and did not see the mother. So, we sat on the stoop waiting to see if the mother rabbit (or hare) would hop on by. When that did not happen, I carefully picked up the one that was still breathing. Then I wrapped in in a cloth baby diaper. While I was making the call, my kids were talking so sweetly to the baby bunny, telling the bunny, it would be okay.
I was told it is very difficult to save a wild baby bunny but the person from the Farm and Animal Rescue Center gave me some instructions. Other than using an eye dropper to feed the bunny, and preparing a formula mixture for the bunny, the only other thing to do, was make a little shelter. The kids helped with finding fresh grass to make a bed for the bunny. I don't recall what kind of formula I made; however, I do remember I needed to feed it every few hours.
Sitting outside the front door where the sun was shining, I held the tiniest little bunny I ever saw. It was smaller than the size of my palm. The kids kept sneaking around the house to find its mother. For kids' sake, I just had to try to save the baby bunny! As luck would have it, the bunny continued to grow every day, bigger and bigger. When the day came to place the bunny on the lawn, it was eager to explore fresh grass. At first, it didn't want to leave us. But soon it did hop away. For myself and my children, it was the best celebration of Easter. To one and to all have a very Happy Easter Sunday.
