The Feature Photo was taken when I arrived at Padre Island years ago.  And no. I did not make a typo in my Title. By the way, it was a great camera, but I never figured out how to change the date. These photos were taken just before the pandemic. As soon as I sat down, a flock of birds came over. I wasn't nervous. Not yet! What I experienced was continuous incoming birds flying directly at me! Each bird came within inches or millimeters of my head! I learned quickly why I was the only one on the beach! Perhaps, the Alfred Hitchcock movie "The Birds," wasn't just a figment of the Author's imagination!

I got off the beach as quickly as I could and moved away to Corpus Christi. I have to say the middle bird scared me off the Island! There were many birds that day and they took aim at me! I guess they didn't want me on their side of the beach! But the Blue Herons were calm and beautiful to watch. Could it be, Blue Herons have rules about using air space and common courtesy? I think so!

Also, for years I pondered. Is it a fact that some humans have aggressive bird brains and others have a more rational bird brain? Is it possible that is why some people are easier to get along with than others because like the Great Blue Heron there really are humans and creatures that enjoy living in harmony with people and in nature.

Hi Patricia,

Sounds like those birds had their own beachfront HOA, and you violated the no-trespassing sign.

I concur with your theory about bird brains in humans. I’ve met a few seagulls in suits and a couple of calm, wise Herons with tatoos. Nature’s personalities show up everywhere.

Carol Williams - your creative mind is very interesting! My photographs are definitely interpretation worthy!

We can learn a lot by observing animals and comparing human behavior to many creatures here on earth. I greatly appreciate your own interpretations about "seagulls in suits," and "wise Herons with tatoos!" The world is full of "nature's personalities!" I agree completely!

Good morning, Patricia... I saw what you were doing with your title immediately. Very clever. I've been to Padre Island, but many, many years ago. I don't remember being "attacked" by birds. I suppose there is similarity between many birds and humans. There's a reason we refer to some people as bird brains.

Nina Hollander, Broker - When I lived in Chicago, I spent most of my summers on Lake Michigan beaches. Then when I moved up north in IL to the Chain-O-Lakes area, I took my kids to beaches all the time. That is where they learned how to swim. I frequented the beaches up and down all the years I lived and visited Maine. As soon as I moved to TX, I explored Galveston, Padre Island, and Corpus Christi often. All those trips to beaches were calm and relaxing.

The angry birds on Padre Island photographs were the first time I ever experienced anything like that myself. I thought to myself, maybe they were protecting something, like perhaps a mother bird having babies or the babies themselves. Respectfully, I packed up and left and went to Corpus Christi.

Nina Hollander, Broker - I was glad I went to Corpus Christi because they also had a Heritage Fest. I was surprised and enjoyed my visit. Rather than just lying on the beach, I was engaged with the beautiful souls of the artists and their crafts, the music, and the food. I bought a sculpture and some wooden hand carved feather pins. Everyone who sees my sculpture or notices the feather pins are in awe. It brings back good memories too.

Kat Palmiotti - Just like a buyer who turns around and begins to walk away before seeing everything else, their instincts are right! Those first impressions really do get you to come closer or move away as quick as you can! I was all alone on that beach and knew I was outnumbered! I did not want to get pecked or stabbed with a beak!

Thanks for letting me know you loved the photos too!

Those are some beautiful birds, and you did an amazing job of capturing them in flight!  I would not be able to have photos turn out like that, haha.

Patricia if that had been me, I would have also immediately thought of the Alfred Hitchcock move "The Birds" as well.

George Souto - I'm so glad to know that I wasn't the only one who thought of Alfred Hitchcock's movie "The Birds." There were so many birds aiming right at me!

Thanks for sharing this entertaining and vivid experience, Patricia Feager! Your knack for storytelling really brings that flock of birds to life—it’s both amusing and slightly terrifying! I love your reflections on harmony in nature and how it mirrors our interactions with each other—so much to ponder! 🦅✨

Mike McCann Broker - Mach1 Realty - I started using my 35mm camera again and it takes much better photographs than my cell phone camera.

I think you should get it out. Now is the time for you to start taking some amazing baby pictures too! I hope Mama and Baby are doing well.
