Motivational Monday…Grab the Pruning Shears
My friend Wanda Kubat-Nerdin - Wanda Can! wrote a post last week about knowing when to cut bait or surrender.
It reminded me of what my grandmother taught me when I followed her around her garden.
“Kathy…it’s important to remove leaves, flowers, and dead branches from the plants. They draw energy from healthier parts of the plant.”
The advice I received from her helped me when I had a garden and began growing orchids.
However, I learned that the people in our life, personal and professional, are like plants in a garden.
Friendships need nurturing…it’s not a one-way street. Good friends are a blessing. Like a beautiful flower, they bring you joy and make you smile. They comfort you when you need it.
However, as we have all experienced, some people come into our lives and are there for us when it’s convenient for them.
~They draw energy from us.
Our energy would be better served with those who bring us joy.
~Like a dead leaf, they could pass on diseases or pests.
A toxic friendship can cause us to forget about healthy activities we used to engage in.
~Dead leaves mean no new growth.
With your focus on what isn’t working, you pass on opportunities to grow and expand yourself.
This week, take out your pruning shears. What’s working for you and what isn’t?
It’s SPRING! It’s the perfect time to do some pruning!
As you remove toxic people from your life, you free up space and emotional energy for positive, healthy relationships.
