Thorns In Heaven

I am sure there are roses in Heaven but I doubt there are any thorns attached to them. It seems like most everything good on this Earth has it's thorns just like the rose does.

How about home ownership?

We often call our domain our little slice of Heaven. So what are the thorns? For many #1 is property taxes. A close second may be homeowners insurance and then of course there is maintenance and repair.

Property taxes are what I personally consider the most pernicious. My home has been paid for in full for more then a decade yet if I skip on the taxes I lose the home I paid for over 30 years. THAT is a thorn!

Homeowners insurance is optional if you own your home free and clear as I do but there is no way I would live without it. Homeowners insurance... sounds pretty simple doesn't it? The thing is that your homeowners insurance is a basic policy and does not cover many threats to your home. I have had to (for god reason) purchased: Flood insurance; Sump pump backup insurance; sewer backup insurance. I also have a policy to cover the water main coming into my home and the piping that carries natural gas within my house.

What about maintenance and repair?

All I can say here is that the possibilities are endless BUT maintenance and repair is pretty much optional to the point you and your spouse can tolerate paint peeling, flooring wearing out and the such. If you purchased a brand new home you should be good for about ten years on the common things that wear out.

A comment from a Christian.

I look forward to my heavenly home. No maintenance, no insurance no problems.

Do you enjoy the cartoons written by my son (Timmothy N. Timm) which I use as a springboard to write my daily posts? His strip, Titus & Philemon, has run in two newspapers for years as well as being printed in my blog every day. Titus & Philemon (pronounced Phi - Lee -Man) are guinea pigs. Their owner is Joe. Timmothy has never repeated a joke/comic strip in the 12 years he has been writing it. He has never copied another strip, such as Peanuts or Garfield. You can follow Timmothy on FB as Titus & Philemon and you can also check him out on Instagram as Instagram.com/titus and philemon/ .For Timmothy's website type timmtimmothy.com into your browser. I tried to put it in a link here but it refuses to work. Do NOT put anything in front of timmtimmothy.com or it will not work.

Good morning, Bob... can't say I've ever thought about the cost of homeownership as a thorn... it's just the cost of homeownership to me and what you pay for the advantages of owning a home.

They are thorns to me Nina Hollander, Broker but I don't mind paying for electricity, natural gas, water, sewer and garbage because those are services I can control and feel like I am getting my money's worth for the service. With property taxes I am paying for a lot of crap I have no say in and just plain old disagree with. As far as insurance, again, I have some control as to what I want and do not want.

Insurance is one thing that bugs me - we pay insurance for our home, our property, our vehicles, our health - the amount is crazy!

The amount is crazy Kat Palmiotti and I can relate to those who say "I am insurance poor". It's good to review coverage. All our cars are paid for so we only carry the minimum of liability on them. I need to check with my homeowners insurance agent to see what I may be able to trim up there.

The City of Minot is currently working on flood control after our flood in 2011. When they finish the project I can drop my flood insurance.

I know that you can relate to this, but since my idea of cold is 40 degrees, I probably can't as much as you can, haha.

What's funny Brian England is that in the middle of winter one can tolerate 20 below BUT once we get a taste of Spring 40 above is cold to us as well.

Good morning Bob. Don't mind paying property taxes if you get what you are paying for! Here in Illinois, we are not. Our governor is a narcissist not case who wants to be president. The teachers unions backed by the politicians they bought off have ruined our schools. The legislature, Republican and Democrat, have bowed to the wealth and weight of our governor to kick the can down the road as they have done for years. Warning, the road is close to the end and the barriers are tick and well positioned. Enjoy your day.

Wayne Martin while ND has long been a Republican State for the majority of time they have been rino republicans spending money like crazy. TODAY and for the last two years there has been a real push towards conservative views/values. It's been tough but we are seeing progress and much of it is being pushed by Minot legislative representatives. We are now seeing it stronger then ever in our City government as our City has been pushed to the brink of bankruptcy and unbearable taxes.

Hello Bob,  weather has been weird for some this year so far.  My college roommate in Ill. just had damage from wind on Sunday night when it pick up his patio table and blew it over a railing and into the neighbor yard and broke the glass top.

We have been really lucky lately Will Hamm , in fact I don't remember the last hail storm here. Of course there was that crazy windy day last year that sent me to the hospital via ambulance.
