We live outside Philadelphia about 20 minutes south of Longwood Gardens. When we were getting married a friend bought us a membership which we have renewed each year. In the past year Longwood has undergone a large transformation creating a new conservatory and a Bonsai garden display area. As you can see above the Bonsai on display are amazing and they rotate so each time you may see different Bonsai. Some have been trained for over 100 years, others are much younger, but some of the examples are 400 years or older. It is amazing.
But our reason for visiting a couple of weekends ago was to catch the Spring display, we were not sure if the tulips would be in full bloom but we were very lucky. You can see below they blended the planting with hyacinths and tulips all in different color blocks.
Then we made out way to the new conservatory, walking through the Bonsai display first.
These plants only bloom after two years and then die, quite impressive display.
The new conservatory has a dry feel to it, although there is plenty of water as an element in the display. I am looking forward to a return trip.
We also took advantage of our timing to grab lunch in the newly remodeled 1906 restaurant being able to snag some places at the bar. The food was excellent if a little pricey, but the cocktails we saw being made looked delicious. A very enjoyable spur of the moment visit with a friend.
I know we have already booked tickets with friends to go to see a concert of Pink Martini in July.
Here they are in concert, I am looking forward to this concert with much anticipation. We are hoping we can get dinner reservations for 1906 before the concert.
