Do You Believe in Ghosts?
Our home in Leesburg, VA, was in a community where the Potomac River met Goose Creek. I’d heard of the Civil War battles and campgrounds nearby, as well as spirits of those who fought. The Battle of Ball’s Bluff occurred less than 10 minutes away.
One Saturday, we’d been in DC exploring the museums. The trip home with multiple stops seemed long, so as soon as we pulled into the garage, Larry hopped out and headed into the house and the upstairs bathroom.
I followed him, and as I reached for the door leading from the garage to the laundry room, the doorknob began jiggling. I couldn’t grab and hold it to open the door!
You know how you’d play around like this when you were a kid while trying to keep the other person from opening the door?!
I said, “Ok, Larry. That’s enough.” After a minute of this, I opened the door expecting to see Larry standing there laughing.
No one.
Larry was coming down the stairs on the other side of the house.
If he didn’t play with the doorknob, who did? My immediate thought was that someone had been in the house.
We checked all of the doors and windows and went around the exterior. All of the doors and windows were locked.
But wait…there’s more!
My desk was in an area by the back door. Above the desk were cabinets with glass panes. After Lucky passed away, we had her cremated, with plans to take her back to FL, then Texas with us. The container with her remains sat in the glass-enclosed cabinet.
One day, I noticed a nose print on the glass outside Lucky’s container and wiped it off. A few days later, it reappeared.
Larry thought it was from Maria, who helped around the house, but she was too short to reach it, and the print showed up after her visit.
Was there a ghost in the house while we were in DC?
We were near Civil War campgrounds. Was the ghost of a Confederate soldier in the house talking to Lucky?
