What an unforgettable weekend we had in the charming town of Gruene, Texas, as we celebrated the marriage of my grandson Russell and his beautiful bride Liz. Love was in the air from the moment we arrived, and the entire weekend overflowed with joy, laughter, and heartfelt moments we’ll cherish forever.

The weekend kicked off with a rehearsal dinner at the Gristmill, a dream venue with its treehouse charm and Hill Country views. Russell’s mom (my daughter Melissa) went above and beyond, thoughtfully crafting an evening that was warm, welcoming, and full of personality. From the décor to the delicious food, every detail reflected her love and care for the couple. She created an experience that was not only unique but also authentically them.

The ceremony was nothing short of magical, made even more meaningful as Russell’s grandfather officiated, adding a deeply personal touch to the vows they exchanged. Before the ceremony began, I had the honor of reading The Art of Marriage by Wilfred Arlan Peterson; a beautiful reflection on love and partnership that set the perfect tone for the day. His timeless words resonated deeply with everyone gathered—but it was the closing line that stayed with me:
“It is not marrying the right partner; it is being the right partner.”
That sentiment perfectly captured the essence of what we were there to celebrate.

And while there were a few behind-the-scenes hiccups, a late photographer arrival and the unexpected departure of the coordinator due to a family emergency, no one skipped a beat. Everyone stayed calm, stepped in where needed, and the celebration unfolded seamlessly. Love and teamwork were the secret ingredients that made everything come together so beautifully.
It was one of those weekends that fills your heart to the brim, a celebration of love, family, and new beginnings. Liz, welcome to our family… we are so thrilled to have you!
