Friday Flags: Half Mast Out of Respect for a Pope
I paused a few seconds to give a thought as to why the flags were at half-mast and then realized in a state with such a strong Catholic population the respect for the head of the Catholic Church.
Pope Francis, the first Cardinal elected to head the church born in the Americas.
Born in Argentina, to Italian immigrants, Jorge Mario Bergoglio was a very sympathetic and an advocate for the poor.
He will lie in state through the weekend and his funeral will be next week. Once the funeral is over the college of Cardinals will assemble and begun the process of finding and electing a successor.
