Front Porch Comes in at Number 7

I have been sharing top essential and desirable features in your new home listed by The National Association of Home Builders and number 7 front porch.  You know where I am going with this, Knee Walls!  This survey is from around the country and yes many new home developments have homes with front porches.  The homes in The Villages really aren’t designed with front porches, but there is a solution, knee walls.  Yes I know this is about the fourth article about knee walls I have shared but I am just going down the list!

Many Village homes have the front walkway to the front door surrounded by landscaping which is nice if you maintain it but think how great it would look with pavers in place of landscaping and a nice knee wall out front.  Maybe a couple of chairs, side tables and if you have room table and chairs for four.

Across the street from our home is an Airbnb we helped flip and I suggested a knee wall, the flipper agreed.  David one of my handymen had the vision and built it.  I see guest and their company using it all the time.  I have gone over and introduced myself and sat on the knee wall while visiting.  Why not have two outdoor areas, one in the front and a lanai in the back.

How interesting, Dick. Here in the Carolinas a rocking chair front porch is often very high on a buyer's list. And I can relate. I have one of those that runs across the full front of my house and I love sitting out there.

Good morning Dick. Never been a big fan of the front knee wall. Likely because I have seen too few well done. I prefer an overhead covered front entrance. Enjoy your day.

Front porch recreation was once so popular in the South. I recall reading of an ordnance where people were no longer allowed to put upholstered furniture on the porch

Dick Betts I think I would like a front porch also if I lived in the Villages.
