Friday Floral Beauty

By

This white amaryllis is a beautiful sight that greets us from the wall by our front patio when arriving home. It opened 2 days ago after much anticipation as we watched the buds mature over the last couple of weeks.

This is its 2nd blooming. We originally planted the bulb for Christmas 2023. We had hoped it would bloom again this past Christmas but it didn't happen. It came back to life a couple of months ago and we hoped it might blossom for Easter but we missed that holiday, too. You can't rush Mother Nature I suppose.

We'd like to have it indoors while it's blooming so we could enjoy it but our cat Fiona likes to chomp on flowers and greenery. Given amaryllis are toxic for cats indoor residency is out of the question. So we enjoy it where it is.

There is a red and white striped amaryllis that is growing close by (see lower left corner) that we'll enjoy next...also a repeat from a couple of years ago...and a red one that is just starting its bud.

The greeting of color as one enters the driveway is a sight to make one smile. Ours are starting to show their stuff as well.

So true Ed Silva, 203-206-0754  It's fun to watch nature change at this time of year.

We have a very fragrant pink rose close to the front door that is about ready to open, too.

Hi Jeff- our neighbor gave me an amaryllis when we lived in FL. I passed it on to a friend when we moved to VA. I've never seen a white amaryllis.

Good morning, Jeff... just lovely. And it's also why the only flowers I have in my house are always either on the kitchen island or my bedroom dresser. Mr. Marlow does not jump up on those.

Hi Nina Hollander, Broker

Fiona is an excellent jumper so the kitchen island and dressers are not safe havens. Possibly the top of the , although I wouldn't be surprised to see her up there some day.

Jeff Dowler, CRS many years ago when I had Siamese cats they were jumpers. I haven't had any cats jumping on kitchen counters or dressers in decades. Maybe they know I wouldn't like it.

Jeff, what a beautiful plant to welcome you home.   You have great weather for it to bloom a couple of times.

Hi Joan Cox

Yes our weather is pretty mild all year and the bulbs don't seem to mind the winter chilly nights. Hopefully it will bloom again.

These are such beautiful flowers Jeff!  I've had one from time to time and could never figure out why or why not it didn't bloom.  We have a huge cactus out front that on occasion has an incredible bloom of huge flowers....and by the afternoon they're all gone to bed.  Gorgeous to see them on occasion tho!

Thanks, Anna "Banana" Kruchten, they really are beautiful and such a large blossom. Cactus can really have some gorgeous flowers, too. Bet you enjoy seeing yours in bloom, even if only for a short while.
