What Builders are Putting in New Homes

I have been sharing what homebuyers want in a home, there is also a list of what builders are putting in a new home.  Some developments the builder pre-builds homes and maybe make them model homes which can be bought or give the buyer ideas, normally upscale ideas.  Here are a few of the adds a builder incorporates into a home to help sell the new homes.

Open concept, some call it a great room, combining the kitchen, living room (or family room) and dining room.  Many homes in The Villages, Florida were built that way.  Many times, a flipper will make the home open concept by dropping walls and rearranging the kitchen.  Quartz Countertops are a big deal and anymore if I see a Formica countertop you expect the buyer to add that to the change list.  I didn’t think about this one but builders like to add a central island in the kitchen, makes sense if you have the room.  9 foot plus ceilings, many of the homes in The Villages have about 10’ ceilings and when you walk into a home that doesn’t it does feel different.

Mostly everything else on the builders list is on the essential and desirable buyers list.  This finishes up the article from the National Association of Home Builders, I hope you got something out of the articles.

Hello Dick - touring new non-custom-built construction can definitely be informative.  Is what is being shown a trend or some type of shift in direction?

Good morning Dick. High ceilings, tray ceilings, center island kitchens and variations of the great room design have some builders becoming very creative and some lagging behind. Enjoy your day.

Goodness, I am appreciating how smart the builder of our house was 38 years ago, except the granite was added to the kitchen a few short years ago

Oak or Pine ceilings, open concepts in custom homes are going away.  I am seeing more defined rooms, more rooms with doors.  Barn doors are gone, carpet is going away and I am seeing bigger windows... a surprise as heating and cooling are costing more these days.

Dick Betts an open concept has been the in-thing for a while now.  It will be interest to see what new trend will replace that.
