A tale of two retirements?

By
Real Estate Agent with Jameson Sotheby's International Realty

It was the best of fines, it was the worst of fines, it was the age of buyers it was the age of purchasers, who the hell knows?

Someone put "Seller loves 2.5 buyer's agents" in the description and the MLS fined them. And you know what!?  They earned it. It was the worst of lines, it was the best of lines, it was the age of buyers and the epoch of liars.

I don't know about youse guys, but I'm just tired of the whole steenkin' thing.  We don't need no steeenkin' badges... (oh, wait, that's a different literary reference...).

It's starting to make retirement look tempting.

If you can't laugh, you'll end up crying.

Good evening Alan,

As always I had to snicker at your wit concerning a problem that is getting way to much attention. I think retirement is looking tempting to many agents!

There are a few agents I'd like to recommend for retirement.

I'm not quite there, but it's tempting.

Oh Alan I've heard quite a few very seasoned agents and brokers talk about 'hanging it up' with all this nonsense going on.  Frankly I'm glad I did....not for that reason but I sure find  it all so nuts.

It sure sounds tempting, doesn't it?

They may have thought they we going to be creative, but they lost. Yes, there is definitely a sign that tie time is coming to wrap up the keys.

Take it from me, buster, one of the blessings of reaching a particular age is that you can tell them to place something where the hot orb no longer shines and do it with a smile

There are some advantages to a few grey hairs, aren't there?

Hello Alan - I can list more than a few reasons why I miss actively participating in real estate. There are also three or more incentives, maybe less for an argument in the other direction.   Let's talk privately.  I recently listened to a podcast where workarounds of many kinds were being discussed.

Good morning Alan. I have been fully retired since returning to the Chicago area from Florida in 2016. Given the current state of things, if I were still active, I would be thinking like you about pulling the trigger. Then again, could you semi-retire and only work with people you truly wanted to work with? You may still have plenty of fuel in the tank to burn. Enjoy your day.

I kinda do that, now.  I only work as hard as I want to, these days.

Our MLS doesn't "have" to abide by those rule, but we do.  I haven't seen a single person break them yet.  But I gotta say I might hang around for the next 6.4 years to be up to see if it all reverts back to adding the field back in the MLS.  I think it's nuts.

There ain't no question that it's all pecans these days.

Alan May - If I didn't see your name, I would have known instantly you're from the Chicagoland! This line was a dead giveaway: " I don't know about youse guys."

People used to tell me all the time, I can tell you're from Chicago. After 28 years, people still say to me: I can tell, you're not from Texas.

Oh, yeah! That person who advertised 2.5 deserved/earned what was coming! MLS rules are taken very seriously.

When it comes to selling real estate, I can tell you know the MLS rules and you sell successfully.
