GRILLE MUSIC  

Friday, May 2, from 7-10 p.m., Clubhouse I Grille 

GrooveQuest plays top favorites from the good ol’ days and covers oldies from rock ‘n’ roll and rhythm and blues. Enjoy appetizers and dinner from the kitchen, accompanied by your picks from the fantastic wine, whiskey and cocktails menu. 

 

HEALTHCARE TALK

Saturday, May 3, at 10:30 a.m., Clubhouse II

A panel of doctors from the MD/DC Chapter of Physicians for a National Health Program discuss the differences between Medicare, Medicare Advantage and Medicare for All. Sponsored by the Unitarian Universalists. Free, but registration required by calling or stopping by the Lifestyle office of either clubhouse.

 

DANCE AND POTLUCK 

Saturday, May 3, from 6-10 p.m., Clubhouse II  

Join the Sock Hop Group for an evening of food, fun and dancing at the Swing Into Spring Dance & Potluck! Doors open at 6 p.m. for a potluck dinner, followed by live music from GrooveQuest at 7 p.m., playing hits from the ‘60s and ‘70s with a mix of rock ‘n’ roll, R&B, country and disco. Admission is $10 cash at the door. Bring a dish to share, BYOB and enjoy a night of great music and good company!  

 

LEISURELY ENGLISH DANCE

Sunday, May 4, at 1 p.m., Clubhouse I

Enjoy a performance of Jane Austin-era, live music and dance made famous by “Pride and Prejudice” and “Bridgerton.” The program closes with an audience participation circle mixer. Sponsored by the English Country Dance Club. Free; registration not required.

 

HOLOCAUST REMEMBRANCE

Sunday, May 4, at 2 p.m., Clubhouse I

A Yom HaShoah program explores how the trauma of the Holocaust continues to shape the lives of survivors' children and grandchildren. A panel of second- and third-generation descendants will reflect on growing up in the shadow of the Shoah and share how inherited memory has impacted their lives. Sponsored by Jewish Residents of Leisure World. Free, but registration is required and available at the Lifestyle office of either clubhouse.

 

HISTORY AND ART OF QUILTING 

Sunday, May 4, at 2:30 p.m., Clubhouse II Auditorium   

Join celebrated quilter Sandy Barrett Hassan as she shares her quilting journey, which began in the 1970s with handmade crib quilts for her daughters and friends. Come see her stunning work and hear the stories behind the stitches. Sponsored by Fireside Forum. Free; no registration required.

CINCO DE MAYO

Monday, May 5, from 5-8 p.m., Clubhouse I Crystal Ballroom

Celebrate Cinco de Mayo with festive food, dancing and live mariachi music! Enjoy a taco bar, homemade margaritas and vibrant performances by Mariachi Estrellas, one of the region’s premier mariachi bands. Doors open at 5 p.m., dinner is at 5:30 p.m., and music runs from 6–8 p.m. Tickets are $35 and include dinner. A cash bar will be available. Registration is required and available at the Lifestyle office of either clubhouse.

 

FOOD DRIVE

Tuesday, May 6-Wednesday, May 7, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Chapel portico

Drive or walk up to donate non-perishable, healthful food donations to support Manna Food Center. Sponsored by The Inter-Faith Chapel.

 

BIRDING 101

Wednesday, May 7, at 9:30 a.m., Clubhouse I

Join the Purple Martin and Bird Club for a fun and informative presentation covering the basics of bird identification, including shape, size, color patterns and habitat of birds that residents may see in their neighborhood. Free; registration not required.

 

MOVIE: ‘LUCY AND DESI’

Wednesday, May 7, at 1:30 p.m., Clubhouse II Auditorium

This heartfelt documentary explores the groundbreaking partnership, enduring love, and cultural legacy of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz. Free, but registration is required at the Lifestyle office in either Clubhouse I or Clubhouse II.

 

'FOODS FOR A HEALTHY HEART’

Thursday, May 8, at 1 p.m., Clubhouse I

Join the Vegetarian Society of Leisure World (VSLW) for a heart-healthy presentation by plant-based nutritionist and cooking instructor Robina Barlow. PLANT SALE

Thursday, May 8, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m., Rain Date: Friday, May 9, from 11 a.m. -3 p.m., Chapel Parking Lot

The Garden and Environmental Club hosts its annual plant sale featuring annuals, herbs, native plants and hanging baskets, with additional cards for sale from the Purple Martin and Bird Club. Pre-ordered flats may be picked up at 10 a.m.; payment is by cash or check only. 

 

HONEY TASTING & LUNCH

Thursday, May 8, from 2-4 p.m., Clubhouse I Crystal Ballroom

Celebrate Mother’s Day with a guided tasting of assorted honeys, accompanied by a light lunch and live harp music by Ellen James. Enjoy tea sandwiches, scones, cookies, door prizes and elegant ambiance—hats and gloves encouraged! Tickets are $35 and available by calling or stopping by the Lifestyle office of either clubhouse.

 

LINDA HARRIS QUARTET

Enjoy an evening of springtime jazz with vocalist Linda Harris and her quartet at Café AIM. Sponsored by Arts in Motion (AIM). Tickets $35, checks only, payable to AIM, at the Lifestyle office in Clubhouse I.

 

MOVIE: ‘THE CHILDREN’S TRAIN’

Monday, May 12, at 1:30 p.m., Clubhouse II Auditorium

This true story set during post-World War II, follows Italian children sent north by rail to escape hunger and rebuild hope in a time of devastation. Free, but registration is required at the Lifestyle office in either Clubhouse I or Clubhouse II.

 

MVA MOBILE OFFICE 

Tuesday, May 13, from 10 a.m. - 1:45 p.m., Clubhouse II parking lot   

The MVA’s Mobile Office returns with services including renewal of non-commercial driver’s licenses and issuance of Maryland photo identification cards. Appointments are required, which you can schedule with your Leisure World ID starting MM DD in the Clubhouse II Lifestyle office.   

 

FREE LIBRARY RESOURCES

Tuesday, May 13, at 2 p.m., Clubhouse II

A representative from Montgomery County Public Libraries will share how residents can access a wide range of free entertainment, education and wellness resources. Sponsored by the Center for Lifelong Learning. Free, but registration is required at the Lifestyle office of either clubhouse.

 

U.S. ARMY FIELD BAND

Tuesday, May 13, at 6 p.m., The Inter-Faith Chapel

Enjoy a chamber recital featuring classical, romantic and patriotic favorites performed by the Chamber Winds of the U.S. Army Field Band. Free; no registration required. A freewill offering to offset the costs of summer concerts will be graciously accepted.

 

FOLK DUO

Wednesday, May 14, at 7 p.m., Clubhouse II Auditorium

Folk duo Janie Meneely and Rob van Sante bring a lively blend of maritime tunes and contemporary ballads to Leisure World. Tickets are $12 and available by calling or visiting the Lifestyle office of either clubhouse.
