Cinco de Mayo, known in Mexico as El Día de la Batalla de Puebla (The Day of the Battle of Puebla), commemorates a significant military victory rather than Mexican Independence Day, as is often mistakenly believed. Each year, this historic battle is reenacted in Mexico City.

 

While tacos and margaritas are part of the fun, Cinco de Mayo is ultimately a celebration of Mexican cultural pride, courage, and resilience. In the United States, it has also become a day to honor the contributions of Mexican Americans and the broader Hispanic community to our nation.

Great info to share - I'm sure the food will be fantastic in those celebrations!

On Cinco de Mayo 1994, I was having a Mexican-themed dinner in a franchise place close to home when my water broke. Four and a half hours later, son #2 was born. So I will never forget the holiday!

Wayne Martin I am not a big margarita guy either, mainly because tequila and I got into a big fight my freshman year of college, haha.  With that being said, I remember not too long ago having a prickly pear margarita that was amazing, haha.

Joan Cox we had Mexican last week... nothing to write home about even though that restaurant is always full... there won't be a repeat experience at that one for me! That was the first time I had Mexican food probably since you and I had lunch in Denver... and that must be 6+ years ago!
