Teacher Appreciation Week 2025 👩‍🏫🏫🧑‍🎓👏

Honoring The Dedication, Hard Work, And Lasting Impact Of Teachers— Who Shape Minds, Inspire Growth, And Change Lives Every Day

“A good education can change anyone. A good teacher can change everything!”

...Unknown

Teacher Appreciation Week is an annual celebration held the first full week of May, and in 2025, it takes place from May 4 through May 10. This special week is dedicated to recognizing the incredible dedication, hard work, and impact that teachers have on our lives, both inside and outside the classroom.

“It’s the teacher that makes the difference, not the classroom.”

... Michael Morpurgo

The highlight of this week is Teacher Appreciation Day on May 5. But one day simply isn't enough to honor the immense contributions teachers make every single day—even a week is barely enough to recognize teachers for everything they do.

“If you look behind every exceptional person there is an exceptional teacher.”

... Stephen Hawking

Teaching Is A Work Of HeartTeachers shape minds, ignite curiosity, and guide students of all ages through the joys and challenges of learning. Whether you are a teacher, have a teacher, or know someone who teaches, this week is a perfect time to show appreciation for their efforts. From hand-written notes and classroom supplies to simple words of gratitude or community-wide celebrations, there are countless ways to express support for teachers.

Teaching is more than a profession—it's a calling. It demands patience, creativity, compassion, and an unshakable belief in the potential of every student. It's also one of the most time-intensive and emotionally demanding jobs, often carried out with limited resources. Teaching truly is a work of heart! That’s why Teacher Appreciation Week matters: it's our opportunity to say “thank you” to the people who help shape the future.

“Teachers are those who help find strengths, wipe away tears, overpower demons and conquer fears.”

... Unknown

Who of us couldn't recall at least one teacher who left a lasting impression—someone who believed in us, challenged us, or helped us see the world in a new way. During this week, we honor not only those individual mentors but the entire community of educators working every day to make a difference.

“The influence of a good teacher can never be erased.”

... Unknown

MEET THE 2024 CHARLOTTE-MECKLENBURG TEACHER OF THE YEAR FINALISTS

So take a moment this week to acknowledge the educators who have helped you or your loved ones grow. A small gesture can go a long way in showing our gratitude to those who give so much.

Teachers

by Kevin William Huff

Teachers
Paint their minds
and guide their thoughts
Share their achievements
and advise their faults

Inspire a Love
of knowledge and truth
As you light the path
Which leads our youth

For our future brightens
with each lesson you teach
Each smile you lengthen
Each goal you help reach

For the dawn of each poet
each philosopher and king
Begins with a Teacher
And the wisdom they bring.

Deb Dahlberg - Rowland Same here, Deb... and quite frankly, I also had some amazing professors in college in the 1960's whose impact on me also planted seeds of success post graduation.

I do have fond memories of a few of my teachers and a different type of memory of others.

The jobs they do today are nothing like they used to be, and they don't get the considerations or the respect they once had.

Ed Silva, 203-206-0754 you are so right, Ed. We need to pay our teachers more and respect them more.

Nina- I still remember most of my teachers. I had some in elementary, middle school, high school, and even college that impacted my life in some manner.  It is sad that they aren't respected as they should. It is sad that they are the least paying profession out there, but the impact they can have on children is priceless. Thank you for recognizing them via the AR platform.  Have a blessed day.   Joe

Joe Mojica hi Joe... teaching used to be a highly respected profession. Sadly that has changed a lot in the past 50 years. As a society we need to change that. Wishing you a great Monday.

Hello Nina - learning can build a strong foundation.  Education is continuous although proper maintenance is a requirement for it not to crumble.  Expressing our gratitude to teachers who inspire is a worthwhile component to that process.

Michael Jacobs hi Michael... I can recall with total clarity those teachers and professors I had in the 1950's and 1960's who had a major impact on me. We can never underestimate the impact of teachers on children.

Nina, although I have no school-age children, I so appreciate teachers.   They have to put up with so much, and things have changed so much over the years.   You couldn't pay me enough.

Joan Cox same here, Joan. Sadly I hear about too many teachers retiring because of safety fears, not because they want to stop teaching.

Nina we are going through our budgetary process here in town right now.  Looking at the school budget, it is amazing how much less teachers make compared to the back office administrative staff.  Somehow, I think it should be the other way around.

George Souto hi George... you'd get no argument from me on that issue. I have numerous teacher clients and it always amazes me how little their income grows.

Brian England my brother is a retired teacher, too. I could not do what teachers do day in and day out. They deserve so much more respect than they get in our society these days.
