Tuesday Pleasures - Just Stop & Look Around!

Flower Mound, Texas had a lot of rain in April. Now that May is here, the rain and thunderstorms continue. Last night I celebrated a friend's birthday. As soon as we left the restaurant and came to the Stop Sign this beautiful rainbow was in the sky! I was glad drivers were taking their time before proceeding through the intersection. Stopping to enjoy natures pleasures and sharing celebrations are fulfilling.

BIG NEWS FOR TEXAS PROPERTY OWNERS

"Texas Lawmakers strike deal on $3B in property Tax Relief! The agreement revealed in Senate and House committee hearings on Monday, would increase the homestead exemption to $140,000 for most Texas homeowners and to $200,000 for seniors and those with disabilities. The proposal would also increase the exemption for property owned by businesses from $2,500 to $125,000, effectively reducing the taxes they pay on inventory and office expenses." Homeowners deserve good news. Buying and owning a home in Texas isn't just an investment, it has benefits! Spending money to grow your garden and keeping it maintained is a good investment in the environment and for you too!

BUTTERFLIES ARE FREE FROM WINTER BLUES

PEONIES ARE THE RX FOR THE SOUL

When planting flowers think about which plants bees like best. Without bees there would be less flowers and a shortage of honey. Bumble Bees like:

  • Foxglove
  • Aster
  • Catmint
  • Tall Sedum

Honey Bees are attracted to flowers such as these:

  • Coneflower
  • Bee Balm
  • English Lavendar
  • Clematis
  • Borage

If you have apple trees and have trouble getting fruit, Blue Orchard Mason Bees feast on plants such as these:

  • Apple
  • Crocus
  • Blueberry

Bees, Butterflies, and Flowers

Bees are the most important pollinators. They rely on pollen and nectar. Bees have a strong sense of smell. Although they cannot see the color red, they recognize blue and green hues best. Butterflies are attracted most to red blooms. The brighter the flowers, the more pollinators are likely to visit. Emily Bronte said it best: May is the month of expectation, the month of wishes, the month of hope.

Good evening Patricia,

I LOVE the photo with the rainbow! That is magnificent! We really had rain the last couple of days in Austin. My pool came real close to spilling over!

Hi Patricia- I've been watching the weather and radar and it looks like you and Dorie Dillard Austin TX have had stronger storms than we've had here in Houston. Love the photo of the rainbow.

Hello Patricia - as for bees I understand their importance in our everyday life.  But like many other things buzzing around me, specificity in identify them remains elusive.

Bees, butterflies, growing plants - love it! I planted two apple trees last year (basically, they were big sticks with a few branches on them) but the deer killed them. I just ordered two new apple trees that are further along in development, and I'm planting them behind fencing so hopefully they will survive. It'll take a few years before we get actual apples but I'm looking forward to it!

Good morning, Patricia... that's an amazing homestead exemption. In South Carolina here it's $30K. In North Carolina is zip, zero, zilch! I think our property taxes are lower than in Texas, however.

That peony is beyond gorgeous. One of my favorite two flowers. I showed a home last week that had peonies all around the front entrance to the home and couldn't stop looking at them.

Patricia we have also had a lot of rain so far in May, but have not been reward with a beautiful rainbow like the one in you photo.
