🪑 Porch Season Is Here – What Buyers Are Looking For Now

Porch Season in Walhalla SC

As the days grow longer and the Upstate warms up, something magical happens: porch season begins. Around here, that means sweet tea in hand, watching the sun dip behind the mountains, and catching a breeze that makes you forget the stress of the day. But it’s more than just a seasonal mood — for home buyers in the Western Upstate of South Carolina, porches are becoming a top priority.

Over the last few months, I’ve noticed a shift in showing feedback and buyer wish lists. Screened porches, covered front porches, and back decks with enough room for furniture, fire pits, or even a porch swing — they’re all being talked about more and more.

Why? Because buyers aren’t just shopping for bedrooms and bathrooms anymore. They’re imagining their lifestyle. They’re picturing a place where they can sip their morning coffee while watching deer cross the yard. Or somewhere to host neighbors for a quiet evening with a mountain breeze. These moments happen on porches, not in closets or garages.

If you're thinking about selling, now is the time to showcase your outdoor living spaces. Clean off the pollen, add some flowering plants, stage a small table with two chairs — help buyers see themselves living there. A porch that feels inviting could be the tipping point that makes your home stand out in a competitive market.

And if you're in the market to buy, now is the perfect time to tour homes in full spring bloom. Don’t forget to spend a few extra minutes on the porch — test the view, feel the air, and listen to the quiet. It might just be the moment that tells you: this is home.

🌿 Want to find a porch with your name on it?
Let’s start looking. You might be just one swing and a sunset away from your next chapter.

Hello Gwen... many people move to Charlotte hoping for a front porch. The identify it with southern living. I have a fabulous front porch, myself, and love to sit on it and read.

I used to take books to the porch, now I just sit and gaze at the bird feeders and the traffic passing by.  I want my brain to rest when I am sitting on the porch.  Thanks for stopping by, Have a great weekend.

What doesn't say America more than a porch, rocking chair and waving to neighbors. Maybe an American flag?

Apple Pie?  No, I can't make one, but my husband can. He puts cheddar cheese in the crust because his dad loved apples and cheese.  Thanks for the comment.

Porch is a southern thing; the bigger the porch, the bigger the family can be.  Have a wonderful Mother's Day celebration--enjoy your porch.

I grew up with a porch and lots of chairs and two swings.  All kinds of drama played out there and was put away before we went to bed.  I think we would have fewer problems if builders built bigger porches.  Have a great day.

I love porches that are big enough for a table, a swing bed or swing and rocking chairs, you have to have room for rocking chairs.  Have a great day.
