One of the reasons I moved to the Villages is for an active lifestyle, with opportunities to exercise daily. No below zero weather and no icy sidewalk to slip on, 238 days of sunshine to get your body moving!
My favorite exercise in The Villages is attending a water aerobics class in one of the twelve sports pools. Both men and women get tan and toned during this fun, full body workout. I attend three days per week for fitness and happiness but new research from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health found another great reason to exercise. As little as 35 minutes total of exercise per week can reduce the chance of dementia over a subsequent four-year timespan by 41%. Researchers also found that the more exercise you do, the more your risk of dementia drops. Out of the 90,000 adults who participated in the study,
those who did 25-60 minutes of exercise per week saw a 60% reduction in risk.
