Another Reason to Read Posts and Comments

Have you ever struggled to choose a topic for your blog? Outside of market reports, listings, and local events, sometimes you want to write about a different topic.

Many of us have days when the mind goes blank. Even though I post daily, I have had “the well is dry” days. One of the places I often receive ideas from is right here…ActiveRain.  Reading members’ posts, comments, and the Q&A often makes the lightbulb light up.

For example, Debbie Sagorin wrote a post (The Case of the Elephant Bush)  that inspired Thomas J. Nelson, REALTOR ® CRS,ABR,PSA,RCS-D, CFSP ’s post…Branching Out: Creative Tenacity, Flexibility and Sweet Revenge.

You might find a different approach to your market reports or an idea for a local post. A real estate tale from a member may remind you of a similar one. Write about it!

A personal story may remind you of one you had.  You may have your own opinion or experience with a subject matter. Share it!

As much as we’d like to think that everyone reads and remembers every post, including ours, we don’t.

So, if someone else’s post jogs your creative juices, write your post. Put your own spin or perspective on it. It’s nice to acknowledge the inspiration if it’s a personal post.

Good morning, Kathy... hopefully this CTA works to increase commenting in the Rain. It feels like commenting keeps declining.

Good morning Kathy. So many here in the Rain have prompted me to post my own thoughts from time to time. Many, like me, benefit from encouragement from you and others. May this CTA bring renewed interest in blogging on a regular basis. Enjoy your day.

HI Wayne Martin I hope so. When I started blogging, a member gave me that encouragement. I wish I could remember who it was but they said just what I needed.

Hello Kathy - "change" exists.  In each of us and anywhere we "live".  It's long been interesting to me as I notice how such evolution impacts people (and places too).

In that way, ActiveRain is an experiment of sorts.   As for the answer to what's next? is a question I ponder about AR from time-to-time.  Mind you, not too much, such mind-clutter is a waste of time.  🗑

On the other hand, I find that reading found on this platform can be insightful as well as informative.  Entertaining too.  Not all the time - talk about unrealistic expectations.   Yes, there is some $h!+ strewn about at times but it is social media after all.  Likely we have seen/smelled plenty of it.  Cultivating and curating one's approach to life are not unalike.

Michael Jacobs I think many of us who have been here for a bit have wondered what will happen...how long can this go on?   Your ponderings and wanderings are always inspirational and lead many of us to our own ponderings.

This is so true, it has happened for me several times. As I write a comment that goes on and on I realize I can write a post jogged by the post I was reading.

Exactly Nick Vandekar, 610-203-4543  When your comment goes on for several sentences, you may have a post right there!!!!

Kathy Streib as you pointed out, I often see a blog post develop out of an answer I give in the Q&A or I'll read another member's experience and be reminded of a similar experience in my life. That's the additional value of participating in the Q&A and surfing the posts of at least the members you follow; but try to add new members or discovered gems to your roster too!

Thomas J. Nelson, REALTOR ® CRS,ABR,PSA,RCS-D, CFSP When I started, it was nothing to get 20+ comments on a post. I wasn't fond of the Q&A when it began but I like it now.

Hi Kathy there is so much inspiration here in the rain!  I enjoy reading and commenting on others posts as I always learn something or have a new thought from reading. I'd like to see more folks start commenting again......and perhaps if we say it enough it will happen!

Good evening Kathy Streib

You never know when you write a post who is inspired and an a light bulb moment occurs. I agree commenting has declined. I'm seeing some posting one after another post and have to admit it doesn't want me to stop and read when there are 6 in a row by the same author! I'm also seeing I comment on the same authors over and over again  and rarely see them reciprocate in commenting.

Dorie Dillard Austin TX I see a lot of that as well. And yes, when I see a member post a string of posts one after the other, I move on.

Hi Kathy:

Blogging ideas can emerge from lots of places, and others' blog posts and comments are certainly a great source. And yes, there are those days when the creative blogging well runs a little dry and spending time on AR is likely to generate an idea or two.

Real estate agents on the platform are undergoing a shift as veteran agents retire or reduce their activity. Some feel burned out when required to respond to comments on posts that do not interest them. Newer members, some experienced in real estate, offer fresh perspectives and utilize AI in their writing.

A reluctance to adopt new approaches is common among veterans who favor traditional methods. The idea that things could be better was dismissed with the common phrase, “If it’s not broken, why fix it?”

May 14, 2025 08:09 PM

Aura Alex I agree that things change and people retire. However, the give and take in life. or in my life, doesn't change. It's like our personal relationships...they take nurturing and it's a two-way street not necessarily tit-for-tat.
