What’s Your Choice Granite or Quartz?

Remember when we were thrilled with new Formica? Now on the must have list is stone countertops not only in kitchen but bathrooms.  Countertops are an easy fix plus you get to decide color and patterns.  So, which is it granite or quartz and why?  Appearance, granite is a stone and you do have some choices while quartz you can customize.   Cost, quartz cost more.  Maintenance, both needs cleaned daily with soap and water only difference granite needs sealed once a year and quartz doesn’t.  Durability, quartz is actually harder than granite and practically indestructible, both use caution with excessive heat.

In The Villages area we have plenty of folks selling granite and quartz, we have some local granite yards one boast of 10,000 slabs in stock and have taken clients there to shop.  The box stores do sell granite and quartz but remember you are adding a middleman.  Shopping for countertops you want to know where the flippers buy and they buy from one of the local yards.

Good morning Dick. I prefer quartz for durability but have seen some great kitchens with granite. You choice and going die=rect to the stone yards can be a huge savings. Enjoy your day.

Good morning, Dick... I have granite in my kitchen and quartz in my bathrooms.  When I built my home quartz was not an option... well, it was, but it was ugly. I like both and have no preference.

We have leathered granite in the kitchens and bathrooms. I liked that granite is natural, durable and can withstand some heat (although I haven't tried that). On the negative side, it does chip. And I got leathered since I do not like/want shiny counters.

Dick Betts when we re-did our kitchen we looked at both, and decided on granite.

Hi Dick- I've had both and don't have a strong preference.  A friend's husband forgot and put a very hot dish on their new granite top and oops, there is now a large crack in it.

Thanks for breaking down the differences so clearly, Dick Betts. I appreciate how you highlight the importance of knowing where your countertops come from—it really makes a difference. Your insights are always helpful and make choosing between granite and quartz a lot less daunting! 😊
