This morning I was on the phone with a friend that I met 15 years ago from Active Rain. Cherise Selley and I began blog-bantering and before long, we were lifelong friends. We have traveled together, stayed in touch, and, connected in such a deep manner.
On our call, we were discussing life in general and she shared with me this large paper she and her husband had drawn out with their life journey. Down at the bottom was a large, white space. Cherise said, "This is where I want to be, in the white space!" This instantly resonated within me and got me thinking about this, "white space".
Here are my takeaways regarding "white space":
White Space is the place where you leave open time. Today I am calling my day a "White Space" day because I intentionally left my calendar open to allow the day to unfold naturally. I don't get many of these days but when I do, I cherish them so much.
White Space allows you to relax, breathe, create, rest, reconnect, and, live! We simply do not need to have every moment of every day completely packed. Allowing for some white space is one of the best gifts you can give yourself.
White Space is that area of your life that you have not yet figured out. Do you have a retirement plan? Travel plans. Lie-goal plans such as writing a book, starting a new hobby or, even a new career. Allowing your life to have this "White Space" can be exciting as you give yourself time to determine what that space will look like.
White Space can simply be a block of time where you spend quiet time. Journaling, prayer time, note writing, meditating, walking, time in your garden, reflection time, or whatever you determine you need on a particular day.
White Space can be created within your home or office. Playing "White Noise" music, diffusing essential oils, creating a less-cluttered environment, and surrounding yourself with what makes you happy are all great ways to create your white space.
Thank you, Cherise, for sharing your thoughts with me today. This concept truly resonated within me and I am reflecting deeply on the importance of creating and connecting with the White Space. Life is chaotic and we often need to take a break from the frenzied pace.
