Hurricanes in The Villages, Florida, Very Rare

By
Real Estate Agent with Dick Betts National Speaker SL3537832

According to many lists of the safest city for hurricanes in Florida Leesburg and Ocala make the top five, The Villages is between them.  To the best of my knowledge the last hurricane to hit The Villages with Cat 1 wind speeds was Irma in 2017.  We do get tropical storms which happens when the hurricane hits land and starts losing strength.  The center of The Villages is 40 miles from the Gulf and 70 miles from the Atlantic.  The highest wind speed recorded in Leesburg in 2024 was 56 MPH recorded during Hurricane Ian, that would be level “Moving Lanai Furniture” from my scale.

Now is the time to stock up on paper products, batteries, a few canned goods, and bottled water. Have some zip lock baggies ready that can be fill with water and placed in unused space in the freezer. Get your propane tanks filled and consider a second tank. Your set until maybe two or three days before the storm hits.

Don’t buy your hurricane snacks and make that trip to Total Wine yet, they won’t last for when you need them!

Good morning Dick. It never hurts to be prepared during hurricane season. When I lived in Florida, I lived in more hurricane prone areas on both coasts.  Enjoy your day.

Dick Betts good to hear that the hurricanes stay away from the homes of those advanced in their youth.  ☺️

However, it is always wise to follow the Boy Scouts Motto and "Always Be Prepared"

Hi Dick- I was born in Houston then lived 30 years off and on in Delray Beach. I've lost count of the number of hurricanes I've been in. That said, I learn something from each hurricane.

Let's hope for a quiet hurricane season.
