Blue Star Museums: Free Admission Program

The Blue Star Museums Program offers FREE museum admission to Active Duty Military and up to 5 family members. The military ID card holder can be an active duty service member or other dependent family member with the appropriate ID.

The military ID holder does not have to be present for family members to take advantage of this program. The benefit is for museum walk-in admission only, and is not valid for field trips, online orders, concerts, special events, guided tours or reserved group tours. The benefit is also not redeemable for cash.

The Blue Star Museums Program is a collaboration between Blue Star Families, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Department of Defense, and more than 2000 museums around the country.

The program is active from Armed Forces Day (the 3rd Saturday in May – May 17 in 2025) and Labor Day (September 1, 2025).

Visit the Blue Star Museums website for more information. You can also check out the US map and see what museums are participating in your particular state. Be sure to check the museum websites for hours and other information before visiting.

Carlsbad has one museum that is participating in the Blue Star Museums Program - the Museum of Making Music. Take a tour in this video.

That's a great opportunity for military dependents to get free admission. It's not like the military is one the highest paying careers.

It was fun to read about the Blue Star Museums Program Ed Silva, 203-206-0754 and I was so impressed at how many museums participate around the country. First I had heard of it. Free is good!

Nice to see more perks for active military people, Jeff! Some airlines used to allow retired people with a valid, military I.D. to priority board as well, that has changed.

I agree Wanda Kubat-Nerdin - Wanda Can!  I was pretty impressed when I recently heard about this. I don't recall the priority boardings but what a shame that is no longer in effect.
