Good morning Manfred. Some last less than 10-15 years and some last longer. Regular maintenance can help push the number higher but is not a guarantee. Maintenance is like insurance and all should be aware. Enjoy your day.

That depends... I just had a new A/C unit installed for my downstairs. It's the third in 19 years. That's not close to 10-15 years, despite the fact that my units are maintained twice a year professionally.

I'm not sure where you're getting your numbers.  I've never had a properly maintained central air conditioning system last only 10 years.  Typically they've lasted closer to 20 years and sometimes longer.
