Top Five "Hidden Gems" about the Lake Conroe Area
or Little known Places to Go!
Everyone wants to go to Lake Conroe because of the Lake, Right? I Agree 100%, The Lake IS the Main Selling Point of the Area, but let me tell you about a few more places you might want enjoy while you are here, if you have a chance!
These are my Top Five Favorites, although this list can change at any time!
1. Conroe Rec Center - The Conroe Rec Center is absolutely the best kept secret in the area. You don’t have to be a resident of Conroe to join this facility, but you do get better pricing if you are a resident. Other connecting areas just have to pay a little bit more, but the value for the money is undeniable. They have work out facilities, swimming pools, water parks, pickle ball, basketball, team sports, Senior programs, line dancing and more! I have personally gone to the water aerobic classes and used the exercise facilities. This is a great place to meet new friends and people with the same interest. They have several locations also, so it is usually not packed. I love the community that is built at the Conroe Recreation Center.
2. Resale Shops - Jazzy Junque, Assistance League, Yesterday’s Treasures Willis TX. These are just a few of my favorites in the area. Most of the Resale shops in the area also have great causes they support.
Jazzy Junque is located in the Outlet Mall location off of League Line Road. They are a volunteer organization that helps fund the Danville Facility for Adults needing assistance. They sell furniture, household goods, jewelry, books, wall decor, fine dining, exercise equipment, filing cabinets, beds, desks, dressers and much much more. They also sell seasonal decor. All of their items are donated and some are made by residents who live at Danville.
The Assistance League gives scholarships to youth. They are a volunteer organization. You can find great prices on household goods, name brand clothing and accessories, crafting, linens, children’s clothing, shoes, wall decor, hobby items, etc. During Holidays like Christmas or Thanksgiving, they have the best prices on decor. They have great decor for every Holiday. They also have some furniture.
Yesterday’s Treasures Willis TX is definitely a “Hidden Gem.” You never know what you will find. They have great prices and it is a great place to stop in for a unique gift, something old, something new, etc. There are so many vendors who place their items there so there is literally something for everyone! They have artist who place their items there as well so if you are looking for a one of a kind item, this is a great place to go!
3. Honey Bee Ham - Voted Best Burgers. This eatery not only sells the Honey Baked Hams, but they also have some of the best burgers around. They have nightly specials where you can get 2 burger baskets, a drink and side for $9.99. Or at least at the time of this writing. I just found out about this one recently, and I have to say, I crave their burgers. They have a selection of home made bread and it is the best! They also serve king ranch chicken and some other items as well. It is a great place to go for lunch or dinner.
4. Mama Juanita’s Mexican Food. I love some good Mexican Food and this is the Best I have found in the area for the price. They give complimentary chips and salsa, plus they have some of the best green sauce around. They have a combo where you can get 2 items or 3 of your choice for under $10-$11 a plate. This also comes with rice and beans(charro by request). They have a convenient location right off of League Line Road. You can go to Jazzy Junque, then go right across the street to Mama Juanitas. This place has not disappointed yet! It is one of the most authentic Mexican Food places in the area that I have found.
5. Well, I don’t have a number 5 at this point. There are a few contenders. I’ll list them below!
Montgomery County Bake House - I love this Bakery. They have fresh baked bread, cinnamon rolls, cookies, cakes, pies, etc. This is a great place to just go and look at everything. If you are looking for something sweet, you need to try this place!
Miss Jeans BBQ - Absolutely the Best Ribs in the Area - but a little further than Lake Conroe Area
Early’s BBQ - This is one of the original BBQ places on Lake Conroe. It is located in Willis and is Family Owned and Operated. It does not disappoint. I have been going to this place since I was a kid!
Smoky Mo’s BBQ Conroe - This is more of a chain restaurant, but they do have great BBQ and a great price. If you enjoy your experience there, you can ring the bell when you leave and see what happens! It is a fun place to go with a convenient location just right off of I-45 in Conroe.
