Carlsbad Art in the Village - UPDATED 5/28/2025
~ 2025 Fair ~
Art lovers in Carlsbad will be thrilled the 27th Annual Art in the Village Fair will be here soon, 2 days after the 1st day of summer.
This popular and well-attended fine art event will feature more than 130 local and regional artists. Art in the Village takes place Sunday June 22nd. The fair runs from 10 am until 6 pm and is free. Art in the Village vendors will be found along State Street and Grand Avenue in the heart of downtown.
Art in the Village is sponsored by the Carlsbad Village Association, and there will be both new and returning artists. The website lists the 2024 participating artists but the 2025 roster is still to be posted stay tuned (I will update this post accordingly).
Artist selection is by jury so you will find high quality among the artists. All artwork is handcrafted and unique. Plus you can talk with the artists at their booths about their creations and learn more about what inspired them. (photo below is from another of Carlsbad's art fairs a few years ago).
Carlsbad has a positive reputation for its 1-day art fairs (there are 4 major ones each year). Whether you are an art lover and collector or not, strolling the Village streets to enjoy beautiful art and live music on a summer Sunday can certainly be an enjoyable thing to do. It’s fun to browse even if nothing strikes your fancy or calls out “buy me!”
The 2025 Art in the Village will feature beautiful artwork. In addition, you can enjoy interactive demonstrations (e.g., sculpting, pottery making), performance art, and live music.
UPDATED: You will also find the popular Chalk Zone featuring beautiful chalk creations beautifying the Village. Watch them be created before your eyes. The Chalk Zone will be in the parking lot by the fountain (corner of State Street and Grand Avenue). Chalk Art will be completed by the artists on specially-prepared boards. Rather than being washed away at the end of the Art Fair the boards will be displayed at various retailers in the Village for continued enjoyment.
The City of Carlsbad will also be hosting a Family Open Studio area for art enthusiasts of all ages to create their own masterpieces. (photo is from a past Art in the Village fair).
If past Art in the Village Fairs are any indication you are sure to find an impressive array of art works. You can expect contemporary and classical sculpture, ceramics and pottery, digital art, photography, jewelry, paintings (watercolors, oils, acrylics, and mixed media), wood creations, metalworks, glassworks, and much more.
Be sure to bring your credit cards and/or cash in case something grabs your attention!
Our late June weather is usually pretty nice and a great time to enjoy the outdoors and the beach. Carlsbad Village art fairs typically are crowded, so you should expect some parking challenges. The good news is Carlsbad Village parking is still free. But consider your travel time accordingly and plan that you may need to walk a distance.
The Coaster commuter rail station is 1 block away if you prefer public transportation to avoid parking issues or are coming from a distance.
If you tire of exploring the art, there are plenty of retailers in the downtown area to visit. There are multiple dining options, wine bars and coffee shops in Carlsbad Village, too. Plus beautiful Carlsbad beaches are 2 blocks away for a stroll before or after spending time at the fair.
