Recognizing and preventing financial fraud: a guide for older adults

Protect Week, from June 16-20, 2025, highlights the importance of preventing financial exploitation, one of the most common forms of abuse affecting older adults. Scams targeting older people, such as fraudulent investments, phishing attempts, and impersonation schemes, can lead to devastating financial losses. One way to protect yourself from potential financial fraud and identify theft is to shred documents that contain sensitive personal and financial information. Visit aging.maryland.gov for more information.

This is a Maryland Department of Aging announcement.

Good morning, Roy... the amount of financial fraud these days totally boggles the mind. It seems there's a new scam a day.

It's so sad that we need to show people how to stay safe from criminal fraud. That being said, I'm glad your area is focused on this subject!

Good morning Roy. If those so creative in developing schemes to take others money would use their abilities to develop programs to help people make money the world would definitely be a better place. Enjoy your day.

It is really sad how much fraud that there is in the world these days and how easy it could be to fall for some scam that is out there.

Roy, Isn't it sad that it’s necessary, but unfortunately, it's the reality we live in. I’m glad to read your area is taking proactive steps.

Hi Roy- everytime I read the paper or news, it's about someone scamming others, and sadly most of those getting scammed are seniors.
