I Don't Remember That Pond in Waterbury CT

I Don't Remember That Pond in Waterbury CT

We have an above average wet spring, or at least it feels that way. We are a bit sun deprived and hope that it does find a way to break through the clouds before too long.

For some of the wildlife, however things could not be better especially for the waterfowl.

No waiting around when there is a freshwater pond to take a break.

For sure the golfers will be considerate and not interrupt the water activities. They don't like to be in the water anyway as it costs then strokes and occasionally a lost ball.

There could be a slight problem, for then, however, as they would not be expecting there to be water in this area.

As they are more comfortable when the hole plays the way in normally does.

Not normally a water hazard hole, but then again, we don't normally get as much rain as we have this spring.

I have a pond that shows up when we have 5 or more inches of rain.  So far, the ducks have not found it, but today I saw a Cardinal bathing in it.  Now I have something else to be grateful for: bathing birds.  Have a safe holiday weekend.

Gwen Fowler SC Lakes & Mountains 864-710-4518   There are a couple of other spots on the course that do get large puddles, but this was a first for me, and it was deep.

Ed: Clever title...That 'pond' definitely wasn’t in the course design. This spring has turned a lot of familiar spots into surprise water features.

Lawrence "Larry" & Sheila Agranoff. Cell: 631-805-4400   I was surprised that the ducks and geese found it so quickly. I do know a few golfers did as one could see the white at the bottom of some of the deeper areas.

Hello Ed, I know that ponds can show up in the spring on some golf courses but will be gone in August.

Will Hamm  I would see then on a few other holes, but this was a first for me.

Oh wow, Ed! That's a lot of rain that didn't have a place to go! Hopefully sun will break out and shine over Waterbury soon!

Ed, your post makes me chuckle. I had a listing years ago that became waterfront property every time it rained. I joked with my administrator that, depending on the day we updated information, we might need to increase the price due to the location. :-)

Monica Hill   That is funny, was there ever a thought of putting in a lifeguard stand?

Ed, that would be a rude awakening golfing, and seeing a "pop-up" pond that wasn't there before!

Joan Cox   It had t be especially when you could look into the water and see some balls that would have been perfect a few days prior.

Ed if you get there after the water goes down, you could pick up a couple of dozen golf balls.   ☺️

George Souto   There weren't that many as it takes a good shot off the tee to reach that area.

Thanks for sharing this charming snapshot, Ed Silva, 203-206-0754. I love how you paint a vivid picture of the new pond on a golf course and the wildlife thriving despite the rain. It’s a great reminder that sometimes, nature surprises us in the most unexpected ways! 🌧️🐦

Lew Corcoran  Painting is not something I do. Thanks for the thoughtful comment, however.

Hi, Ed Silva, 203-206-0754. In this context, I didn’t mean to break out the easel, paint, and paint brushes to "paint" an image of a pond on a golf course. Rather, I used "paint a picture of" as a means to describe a detailed mental image for the reader. This idiomatic expression is used to provide a clear depiction of a situation, story, or concept, and helping others to better understand or visualize what is being described in writing.

Hi Ed- what a cute title. We could use some of that rain here. We have a small swell in our backyard that fills up after a heavy rain. However, it does its job and directs the water elsewhere.

Kathy Streib  We have had rain for quite a while lately but the temps being so much lower than normal have people uncomfortable.

Since we don't get a lot of rain in my area, when it does rain, we get ponds like that and I see kids playing in them, haha.

Hi Ed:

What fun...a temporary (hopefully) water hazard, watering hole and swimming pool. Wonder how many golf balls will end up in this freshwater pond?

Jeff

Ed Silva, 203-206-0754 - Your positive attitude and sunny disposition is a wonderful substitute for the rainy weather.

I do not have a swimming pool in my yard. However, people are posting pictures of ducks in their pools. Isn't it something that ducks find exactly what they need without searching (like people do on the Internet).
