Rest Is Not A Reward...
It’s Part Of Any Successful Work Plan.
Today is Memorial Day in the United States, a day I dedicate to giving prayer and gratitude to all the men in my family who served, in every war from World War I to the Vietnam War. We pause to honor and remember all those men, women and K-9's who sacrificed their lives in service to our country. It’s a moment for reflection, gratitude, and for many, the unofficial start of summer.
Do you know what it means to have a life? Not a career, a life. Our lives are not our careers, our careers provide our lifestyle, but not our lives. We are the architects of our lives we're living and our life plans need to include time for being present with our Family, Friends, Physical Health, Mental Health, Business, Finances, Recreation and Spirituality. We need a rest plan too!

Memorial Day, like any holiday has a meaning behind it, and it's not "weekend blowout sales" - it's a time of reflection for the meaning of the holiday, prayer for some, gathering with family and friends for others; maybe travel plans, etc. For entrepreneurs (at least for me) it should be a day to acclimate between base camps on our climb to the peak of our annual goals. Mountain climbers heading to the top of Everest:
- Acclimate on base camp expeditions - that means they don't go straight up. They go up and back many times between camps on the ascent to acclimate their bodies to the altitude.
- Establish acclimation and rest then move between camps to rest and recharge, it's part of the plan. "Rest" is in the mountain's name.
- They follow this plan and a proven route in order to reach the summit successfully and safely.
Take a pause to ask, "How am I spending my time today?"
Another great question to reflect on:Â "How am I spending this one precious life?"
Resting? Recharging? Connecting with loved ones? Remembering our fallen veterans? Being present in your life?
"Taking time off isn’t a detour from success—it’s fuel for it. When we rest, reflect, and reconnect, we return sharper, more grateful, and more grounded."
