Friday Flags: A Good Night in Colchester, CT

We attended an awards night for the students at Bacon Academy, the high school that serves the 9-12 grades in Colchester, CT.

Our grandson, Raphael was to receive some recognition, and when the evening was over, he was the recipient of 5 certificates of achievement.

On the way-out f the school, I glanced at the flags near the entrance, and it was if they were calling out to me.

Both the US flag, and the state of CT flag were in full wave.

He had an exceptional year and passed his AP classes with high grades. He is working to be able to get grades that will allow him to pursue his college degree with minimum lending.

Good morning Ed. Nice flags but this post belongs to your grandson and his achievements. Nothing easy about AP classes that can push a student to their limits. That said, the reward of college credit is well worth the effort. Kudos to Raphael and to you the proud grandfather. Enjoy your day.

Wayne Martin  Thank you. He is trying to get the same results as one of his cousins, who was Valedictorian of his high school class, and was given a 4-year scholarship to UConn.

That cousin graduated with honors in 3 years and is going to use the 4th year to get his masters

Debe Maxwell, CRS   Both my wife and I set up funds for him early.  He has a state 529 fund, which is education only and I set up a trust in a mutual fund, which had greater flexibility.

I asked him how he would work between both, and his response was to use the one wot the restrictions first and then hope that he would not need the rest and could keep it. Nothing mercenary about him

Ed Silva, 203-206-0754 - Big congratulations to Raphael! As grandparents, you both must be extremely proud of him! Five achievements were very exciting! He worked hard in school. Setting up a fund for his education was a very generous and meaningful gift. He is well funded and on his way to a promising future. I applaud you and Mrs. Silva for your generosity and dedication to help Raphael succeed.
