Thoughts for Saturday, May 31, 2025

By
Industry Observer 0506509

The Summer Solstice begins on June 20, 2025. What end of spring thoughts comes to your mind? Off the top of my head, I can think of three: malfunctions, repairs, and renovations.

  • I can work in my garden.
  • I can call for contractor estimates now for repairs in the Fall.
  • I can compare and contrast immediate needs and costs for renovations.

Worthy of Display

A garden is worthy of display. Now is the time to get busy. The seasons of Spring and Summer goes by so fast. The house where we live is always on display, whether it is on the market for sale or not. Curb appeal makes a difference in how people see the way we live when they pass by. Our minds are naturally filled with curiosity. For strangers and people who pass frequently the proof is in what they see. Remember: Whether it is landscaping or things we do, there are patterns people remember.

A Seasonal Revival

"An improvement in the condition or strength of something," is a good definition of the word revival. Paying attention to details can make a significant difference in how people perceive what they see. Something to think about when moving through the seasons, nearly everything we worked on previously needs constant improvements. It doesn't matter whether you put your home on the market now or later, paying attention to small details year-round reduces a lot of time, stress, and cost when tended to immediately.

Good morning, Patricia... I do maintenance on my house throughout the year, so don't really focus on plans from a seasonal perspective.

Hello Patricia - seasonal shifts may not be as noticeable in my area as in other parts of the country.  However, keeping in mind the message of the quote you share, it is good that such thoughts can occur throughout the year when we maintain a positive attitude.

Our gardens have been so much delayed by all the coo rainy weather. Hopefully it will let up some so that the garden will grow

Ed Silva, 203-206-0754 - My spring was wetter and longer than usual. But once the timing was right, the flowers bloomed, and they are looking great! Also, my Hydrangea's that haven't bloomed in several years are now blooming in abundance. Trust nature. Nature knows best! You shall have your spring garden, that I'm sure of!

Hello Patricia, Your thoughts on seasonal home revival are incredibly timely and insightful. Emphasizing continuous upkeep, from garden display to interior details, truly highlights how constant care reduces future stress. "Worthy of Display" resonates deeply for homeowners and sellers alike. Excellent perspective!

Dennis Neal - you have no idea how happy I was to receive your positive comments - thank you! My learning about making a good first impression in the garden began as early as I can remember. The people in my Chicago neighborhood taught me how important it is to be appreciative of having a home (they were all European immigrants). To them, my grandparents, and parents, a home was an investment. Their home was a place for family and children to learn from their elders. I can still remember the house two doors down with a garden full of lovely iris plants. They were so beautiful to me. And in our garden, I was fascinated by Lilies of the Valley. That was how I got inspired to compose in my head my own stories about a magic fairy in the garden painting flowers of Easter colors.

Oh my goodness, I'm 100% with you on this, Patricia! Ray and I are maintenance-aholics! If we see the smallest thing, we're on it. I can't imagine going through what some sellers go through, having to do make-up maintenance prior to listing. You've given me an idea for a great email for my new buyer clients. THANK YOU!!

Debe Maxwell, CRS - You are ambitious and a lovely couple! My father was the same way and turned me & my siblings into "maintenance-aholics!" Summertime was spent doing maintenance chores around the exterior. Otherwise, when it came to the interior, it was an immediate necessity to address.

I was just talking to my sister the other day. She said to me, well, it's springtime. Remember when we left home for school and by the time we got back, mom had painted one room at a time and took all the furniture out and back in place before we got home from school?

And then I remembered, she painted the ceilings, removed the chandeliers, and painted the baseboards too!!!  She was the Energizer Bunny, and my dad was the Big Energizer Hare!

I'm glad to hear I inspired you. Congratulations on another successful sale!

Thanks so much for sharing this thoughtful post, Patricia Feager. I really appreciate your insights on seasonal updates and curb appeal - such valuable reminders as we head into summer. 😊 Your words always inspire us to see the beauty in small details and keep our homes looking their best!

Lew Corcoran - I appreciate your comment! Isn't it amazing what a fresh coat of paint can do to the exterior wood trimmings, porch, soffits and eaves too! Plant, weed, water, and keep the gardens growing neat and healthy, and your house can win the neighborhood prize for curb appeal! Indoor and outdoor revivals can really spruce up the house and it's memorable to everyone who passes by or through your doors.

Patricia, I know that Summer is around the corner, but here in CT the weather has been so cool and raining that we are still waiting for Spring to arrive.  ☺️

George Souto - Yes. I heard the same thing from Ed Silva, 203-206-0754. Be patient, Mother Nature knows best. We had more rain this year than previous years. Once the flowers started blooming, it has been worth the wait! Even my lawn is lush and thicker than usual. Mother Nature can't be rushed or forced by humans.

May your spring and summer be heavenly!

Hi Patricia- summer means something different to me living in Houston where, for the most part, we have good weather. unlike when we lived in Northern VA.  We took advantage of the warm weather and went to the farmer's markets and did anything we wanted or needed to do while it was warm.

My orchids that had been indoors went outside as soon as the nights were above 50 degrees.

May 31, 2025 12:40 PM

Kathy Streib - True! Seasonal transitions between regions where we live are very different. I had beautiful orchids grow inside my house in Flower Mound but never considered moving how it would work out as you described. Living IL, spring and summer were very short. I have good luck with Christmas Amaryllis and waiting until spring to plant them in the gardens. Once they are established in the dirt, they come back up without fail.

Good morning. I cannot BELIEVE it's almost officially summer! Although it was over 90º yesterday so I can believe it, I just can't believe it.

Regarding maintenance on our homes and properties - it's a never ending cycle!
