From tiny blue dots to big blurry blobs, spherical to triangular and cigar shaped craft, unidentified flying objects spotted in Denver run the gamut.
There have been about a dozen UFO sightings in the Denver metro since the beginning of 2025, according to the National UFO Reporting Center. It classifies reports as:
Tier one, which include “the most dramatic sightings – strangely structured craft or highly anomalous phenomena seen at close distance,” according to its website.
Tier two: Objects that exhibit “unusual characteristics such as incredible speed, non-inertial turns, unexplainable propulsion, etc.,” the website explains.
Tier three: These reports include things that cannot be easily explained, according to the website.
Tier four: These reports the center deems a sighting as explainable by human or natural phenomenon, according to the website. That can include drones, weather ballons, birds or even Chinese lanterns, according to the reports.
‘Huge’ object with blinking light
One report from Denver on Jan. 11, 2025 classified as tier 1 described the object as “weird shaped,” adding “it seemed like it may have had arms, but circular in shape.” That sighting occurred Jan. 22 at about 5 p.m., according to the report. “It was huge in size but set up high in the sky,” the report continued. “It moved real slow and had no sound. A light would come on and off and look like it was dropping something out of it.”
The report includes a blurry, dark photo and video of the object. Those shooting the scene become visibly shaken. The object had a light that blinked off and on and it appeared the object was spraying a substance. “What the f*** is it,” the videographer repeats over and over. “It is super close,” he says before the video ends.
Triangular craft with ‘aura’ around it
On Feb. 21, a triangular-shaped craft was reported in Thornton and classified as tier 2. The object was described as black with lights and an aura or haze around it. “Triangular craft at low altitude,” the report reads, “with dim orange steady lights on bottom of craft. Craft was steady cruising northwest around 500 mph at around 3000 to 4000 feet. No engine sound. No exhaust. Clearly visible for short time that I witnessed it. It appeared to be wrapped in a haze."
‘Donut-shaped metal object’
On Feb. 16, in another tier one report, a spotter in Centennial described a “donut-shaped metal object about the size of a car. It was flying as low as the bridge in front of it, but the appearance was for some reason blurry despite its proximity,” according to the report. “There was also another object flying close behind, smaller and a vertical rectangle shape, which we couldn’t see clearly either even though it was right in front of us. It flew over our car at a slow rate, but then we saw it turn around and move quickly southwest towards the mountains. We had never witnessed anything like that in our lives and neither of us could understand what it was and why it was appearing so hazy/blurry despite it flying right over us not even 50 feet above our vehicle.”
A total of 3,451 unexplained aerial phenomena sightings have been reported to the center since March 2023, according to the center.
