"A journey is best measured in friends, not miles."
— Tim CahillI've said it before, and I'll say it again:
One of the things I love most about ActiveRain is how it transforms online connections into real-world friendships... friendships that feel like they've always existed, even if you've just met face-to-face for the first time.
Sunday evening, I had the pleasure of meeting Kat Palmiotti and her husband, Anthony, right here in Wenatchee! They were on their way to Western Washington. Anthony said the purpose of the trip was to be sure the Pacific Ocean is still there. I assured him it was, but he insisted on going anyway. I know they are both looking forward to exploring some of the state of Washington. Coming from Montana and entering the state from the east side, they will see significant changes in geography and climate before reaching the Pacific Ocean.
On their way west, they planned to stop for the night at Confluence State Park here in Wenatchee. Lucky for me, they invited me to join them for a campfire dinner, complete with Bison burgers. I brought along a local red wine for Kat, a special IPA for Anthony, a local white wine for me... and a few of Wenatchee’s famous fresh apples.
Although this was the first time we’d met in person, it didn’t feel that way. After all our weekly Zoom calls and blog interactions, it was more like catching up with longtime friends. We shared stories, laughter, and a beautiful evening around the fire, where Anthony cooked our burgers.
Over the years, I’ve traveled all over this country meeting up with ActiveRain members, and each one has added something special to my journey. These moments are proof that this community is more than just a networking site. It’s a circle of friends, colleagues, and kindred spirits.
If you're ever passing through Wenatchee, please let me know. I'd love to add you to my list of ActiveRain visitors! There’s a lot to love in this valley, especially when you share it with good company.
