When is a Compliance Strategy TOO Much?

I have had decades of experience in tech, legal, AI and compliance(yes hard to imagine for someone who is a Toys 'R US Kid - still 29* - with years of experience at 29 - LoL).

One thing that has been UNIVERSALLY true, is that if you allow compliance and risk management teams carte blanche, they will take it and they will systematically destroy your company.  Wyndham is a prime example. Their HR department has destroyed the company and the vast number of Wyndham executives all point to one truth - their merger with an HR/Compliance firm has destroyed the sales team (which DID need some clarity (too be kind).

A recent example is Adidas. I spend a fortune on their products -95% of which is online. I am blocked on all browsers, all apps - because their new compliance is AI driven and blocking MOST users. Online threads confirm this. No guidance on how to correct it.

The Adidas catastrophe is killing sales. It was a legitimate goal to make their sites more compliant and safe for users.  However the solution to the problem was worse than the problem!!

My advice -  as a general rule of thumb, LISTEN to the compliance people, but TEST what they propose.  This is what I call a "GEICO Moment".  It is "What they do". Compliance teams care about compliance but a sales organization cannot lose sight of SALES. It is a natural inclination for compliance teams to force compliance -  at any cost.

Listen to them but do not allow provide them with carte blanche to implement everything!!!!

Expert guidance. Exceptional results.

Thanks so much for sharing this insightful post, Paddy Deighan MBA JD PhD. II really appreciate the valuable points you make. I actually tried to get into the Adidas website myself, and no luck there either. Talk about a compliance overreach! 😂 Your advice to listen but test is spot on. It’s all about finding that balance.

Paddy-= you wonder where common sense went. Management/owners need to listen to what is happening and listne to consumers/customers/users of their product.

Kathy, the mind numbing aspect of this is that days later, it is still not fixed...Jeff D'Muria had the same problem!!

Can you think of groups I should post in to improve readers?
