Thank you, Anna "Banana" Kruchten and Debe Maxwell, CRS, for creating such a meaningful and imaginative challenge for June! I’ve loved the creative twist you’ve added to the ActiveRain Points Store, giving us a moment to pause, reflect, and ask ourselves how we’d truly like to spend these (imaginary) points to create impact in our lives, our businesses, or in the world around us.
Over the years, we’ve had plenty of fun "shopping with our points" in the point store and enjoyed lots of playful bantering with fellow members. But this time, the challenge made me stop and reflect more deeply. How could I “spend” these points in a way that truly makes a difference?
For me, the answer was clear.
I'm cashing in 200,000 ActiveRain points and gifting them to Hospice Austin, an organization near and dear to my heart. They walked beside my family during one of the most difficult times in our lives, the passing of my beloved Geno, and I will never forget their compassion, their guidance, and their unwavering support.
Hospice Austin is more than a nonprofit; they are a lifeline for families navigating the end-of-life journey. As Austin’s only non-profit hospice, they care for anyone in need, regardless of age, diagnosis, or financial means. Their mission is simple: to serve. And serve they do, with dignity, compassion, and heart.
Geno wanted to be at home, and they made that happen, providing 24-hour expert medical care and helping us understand and prepare for each step of the journey. They weren’t just there for him, they were there for all of us. In those quiet, uncertain moments, their presence brought peace and comfort we couldn’t have found on our own.

They’ve been doing this for over 40 years, and they truly know what they’re doing. Their work is sacred, and the difference they make is immeasurable.
So, if I could turn these 200,000 ActiveRain points into something real, I would hand them, gratefully and without hesitation, to Hospice Austin.
Thank you, Hospice Austin, for helping my Geno transition with dignity and grace, and for helping our family navigate the most difficult goodbye with love and support.
