Motivational Monday…Focus Your Energy

Have you ever found yourself in a business transaction or playing a game where things seem to be going wonkers?

Saturday, Larry and I watched the French Open match between Coco Gauff and Aryna Sabalenka. The weather conditions weren’t perfect, and it was a struggle for Sabalenka.

Of course, Gauff experienced the same conditions, but it was how she met them that made the difference (she won).

She turned her energy not towards the windy conditions but towards making adjustments so that she was in control, not the weather.

What’s the takeaway?

~Learn to focus on things you can control. We can’t control the weather or someone’s behavior, however, we can control how we react.

~Channel your energy towards something positive. Her opponent appeared to blame the conditions and direct her energies there.  In Coco’s case, rather than spend wasted energy on missed serves or the bad weather, she saved hers to focus on the hits and serves she knew she could make.

This week, place your focus on the things you know you can do…direct your energies towards positive actions and people!

The positive thinker sees the invisible, feels the intangible, and achieves the impossible.

Good morning Kathy. "Control" is a word with limited definition and use. Focus on what you can control and you remain in control. That which you cannot control is beyond your reach. If you reach beyond your circle of control you lose control. Enjoy your day.

HI  Wayne Martin we often waste more energy on things and people we cannot control.   Save your energy for what you can control.

Yes indeed, there is a lot we cannot control - but a lot we can. We have to focus our energy where it will actually make a difference!

Hello Kathy - wonkiness exists.  Although not always successful, I am thankful when workarounds wander my way.  Cue a familiar Frank Sinatra tune. . .   🎵🎶🎵

Good morning Kathy,

This is a wonderful message for Monday morning. I feel like I'm in a spring market with all that is going on right now so I've had to refocus and prioritize business and family activities. It's really easy one you realize there are things you can control and things you can't. Release those things you can't control into the universe!

Dorie Dillard Austin TX my thoughts, exactly. There was a noticeable difference in the attitude and focus of the two players in Saturday's game. One player blamed the weather, the other moved through it.

Wonkers...that is a new word for me.

Conditions will not always be perfect...or even in our favor. Making the best of it can be way more rewarding.

Hi Kathy... that's what I always tell my clients when they start worrying about all sorts of things... that we focus on what we can control. We can't do anything about things we can't control.

Really enjoyed this post. It’s easy to get caught up in everything going wrong, but choosing to adjust and push forward takes real discipline. Great motivation to start the week.

HI Travis Matthews  Thank you for commenting and for your very kind words. It's easy to blame the weather, someone else or the conditions. The harder thing to do is adjust and keep going.

Thanks so much for sharing this inspiring post, Kathy Streib! I really appreciate how you highlighted the power of focusing on what we can control and turning our energy into positive action. It’s such a timely reminder for all of us. 😊 Looking forward to putting this mindset into practice this week!

Whenever I a good friend focusing on the negative - which BTW isn't often in our group, I simply suggest that perhaps by focusing on what is working a solution will more likely pop up easily.  I think I wrote a post about this years ago - Are you a Problem Solver or Solution Seeker.  I'll see if I can track it down.

Kathy - it took me a long time to improve my skill on focusing on what I can control instead of me trying to control a situation myself. I live a much more peaceful and comfortable life now; I don't worry as much anymore.  Thanks for your post, it was a confirmation.

Good for you Joe Mojica  I had a close friend who went through something recently. They continued to focus on the negative...what went wrong, the person, etc. I baseically told her "get over it" and tell me how you're going forward.
