Reaching The Checkout,

An AR June 2025 Challenge Entry

Fourth and Finally

Although the end-of-month-closing announcement has not yet been broadcast, it appears I have reached the final checkout station at The ActiveRain Points Store.

But first, I want to express my appreciation for the monthly challenges. For me, they promote pondering possibilities. Different than a routine visit to this platform yet similar to those school assignments from decades ago. Do you remember writing a report based on a topic suggested by the teacher or professor.

In particular, this month co-hosts Anna "Banana" Kruchten and Debe Maxwell, CRS have pulled together a unique point-of-sale approach.

AR is, if nothing else, an interesting experiment. And experience too. Talk about portmanteau possibilities and an important point.

These days terms like canceling, reducing and eliminating seem to make appearances on many figurative shelves we regularly encounter. Sometimes with disdain. However, they were commonly used in my previous career in the bricks-and-mortar world of retail. In those days, management was tasked to achieve greater results and improved efficiency. Yes, change "lives" among us as do evolutions in definitions. The significance to this challenge isn't unnoticed by me.

I wonder. What is the future of the ActiveRain Point Store. Will it close? Be transformed into another entity. Taken over or merged. Not to mention the greater ActiveRainLand neighborhood.

Is it necessary to recycle, repurpose and reimagine this venture. I believe points have underscored AR participation. For a long time and for some but definitely not for all. This remains a diverse community. Vibrant in various ways. Viable and valuable. Likely more or less depending on one's perspective. What do you bring to the table? Or take away? Pondering continues. As do points of view. I believe it's worthy of a continuing discussion.

As for the points I have collected, I have decided to leave this imaginary establishment without spending them. For now. I will continue to collect as well as spread them to others in my way on a regular basis. And, yes, you can share your ideas too. You still have time (June 30 deadline) to submit your post(s).

Good morning, Michael. Leave it to you to raise some interesting questions about the future of this platform as part of the June Challenge. I've submitted two entries and I suspect I'm done.

Nina Hollander, Broker - I can understand how participation can and does vary by member and theme of challenge.

Loved reading your viewpoint and questions. Pondering begets more pondering!

As for keeping your points, that's certainly one way to do it!

Kat Palmiotti - thank you.  And as I previously shared, pondering for me is a lifelong journey which fortunately has been low cost and often highly rewarding.  The same goes for my overall AR experience.

Good morning Michael. As always you raise great points worthy of pondering. You have to know when to hold them and when to fold them, know when to walk away and when to run! Thanks Kenny Rogers! Some need not spend points to inspire other members. Enjoy your day.

Wayne Martin - thanks for sharing the reminder of Kenny Rogers in your comment.  Now, that tune will likely be playing around in my mind for the rests of day.  🎵🎶🎵

So many dreams have been had with the use of AR points for purchase, but upon reaching the checkout, those dreams would have to go back on the shelves, since I am guessing that AR points will not be accepted for the purchase, haha.

Brian England - it's been a while since I have had to consider the exchange rate for a purchase decision.  And there's a bigger point to discuss.

I have thought about it, and a nice 1956 Corvette in pristine condition would certainly change my life.

Michael, Sometimes it’s the made-up stuff that gets us thinking the most. Whether the 'points' stick around or not, the conversations they spark might be the real reward!

Lawrence "Larry" & Sheila Agranoff. Cell: 631-805-4400 - indeed!  And I believe that might be an important point.

Michael Jacobs - Whether the points amount to much or not, I find them to be an incentive to keep going. I notice, you never run out of ideas and obviously they mean something to you because you want to collect more! Good for you! I feel the same way. When I look at the people who started in 2010, I'm so behind in some and ahead of others from that same timeframe. I still have a lot of catching up to do! I am motivated!!!

Patricia Feager - the point discussion has a long history on AR.  Its importance in the beginning has morphed into something that remains salient for many.

For different reasons.  And for seemingly no reason at all too - at least that's what some may say.  ActiveRainLand is a big place where games and gamesmanship of many sorts are played.  It's on display.  At least that's what I have observed.  Others may disagree.  It's a part of an ongoing conversation - hopefully such water cooler huddling can be conducted civilly.

Hi Michael 😊 I so appreciate your ponderings regarding AR and the Point Store. We’ll see where it goes, won’t we! It has been enjoyable reading everyone’s take on points - or rather their point of view! Thank YOU for sharing your thoughts and ideas and nudging all of us to continue on the journey!!

Anna "Banana" Kruchten - I agree with you that each challenge is an opportunity to see how submissions explore the topic provided.  While not a brick-and-mortar business, I have enjoyed seeing what The AR Point Store has inspired.  Thank you for the comment and for co-hosting this month's event.

Will Hamm - my trip through The AR Point Store is more of a window-shopping experience so far.  However, I have enjoyed many of the choices members have shared.  I look forward to seeing what will be up next.  In and away from the store as well as this place.

Oh, your point pondering snowball continues rolling down the pseudo aisles of the AR Point Store, Michael! I have no idea what will happen to AR and thus, the store itself. Your points are all well received and here's to more ponderific posts from you, even when the AR Point Store doors shut for another season!

As always, thank you so much for your participation in our June challenge.

Debe Maxwell, CRS - my pondering pre-dates AR or its beloved Point Store.  I don't predict any massive discounting of any of the items on display.  In reality, virtually or however they are merchandised to the membership.

Michael- once again, you've wandered and pondered and where you traveled only encouraged us to do our own mind wandering.   It's funny that when I began my journey here, it took me months before I knew what p; points were.

Kathy Streib - me too and I think we weren't alone in wondering about points.

Dorie Dillard Austin TX - the blogroll does have a rhythm of sorts, and it may adjust to the reality of the everyday world.  There are countless times I wonder - how did I "miss" this or that.  But as we know, it happens.

I am not a big social media advocate and the most social I get online is within the site. Michael Jacobs  When they close shop, or downsize, or re-purpose or do something Amazoning with it, that will most likely end it for me.

I think back to the early days when the leader ahead of me in my city and county had over 200,000 points ahead of me. I remember the first time there was a challenge and I got hooked....doing whatever needed to capture that first place spot. It seemed so impossible at the time.

I did eventually make it to #1 and remain there (even though all I post now is my Wednesday post). Never did make it to #1 in the state though. That's just fine with me, LOL. Nothing wrong with second place!
