A lot of my business ethic comes from a time when I was in the Boy Scouts. I know there has been negative news about the Boy Scouts but all of my experiences were fantastic. The paragraph below was written 10 years ago for
a Sales Magic article. Those Eagle Scouts have graduated from College and have entered professional careers.
I was a speaker for an Eagle Scout Court of Honor at Joint Venture Church in San Jose. It was quite a formal event and two Scouts became Eagle Scouts. I talked about my adventures in Scouting and about my belief that that the Scout Law is an excellent business model for all businesses.
The Scout Law: Scouts are ...
- Trustworthy: Scouts are honest and reliable, keeping their promises and being dependable.
- Loyal: They show loyalty to their family, leaders, friends, school, and country.
- Helpful: Scouts willingly assist others without expecting reward or recognition.
- Friendly: They treat everyone as a friend, respecting diverse viewpoints and cultures.
- Courteous: Scouts are polite, using good manners and being respectful of others.
- Kind: They show compassion and treat others as they wish to be treated, avoiding harm to harmless beings.
- Obedient: Scouts follow the rules and laws, advocating for change through respectful means when necessary.
- Cheerful: They maintain a positive attitude, finding the bright side in situations and encouraging others.
- Thrifty: Scouts use their time, resources, and money wisely, avoiding wastefulness.
- Brave: They face challenges and stand up for what is right, even when it's difficult.
- Clean: Scouts maintain physical and mental health, contributing to a clean environment.
- Reverent: They respect their religious beliefs and the beliefs of others.
