Dear Mr. and Mrs. Homeowner,
You probably already know how important home staging is, and the benefits of having a professional home stager get your home ready to sell.
First impressions are crucial, but there are two areas that you really don't need to worry too much about:
1) Kids' bedrooms
Really, you don't need to worry about any bedrooms other than the primary.
So if your kid loves the local pro football team and you painted their bedroom in the bright, vivid team colors with the logo on one wall...that's okay.
If your other kid is really into animals and you painted that bedroom with the greens and browns of a farm or forest...that's okay, too.
When we talk about neutralizing a home so that buyers can imagine living there, we generally want you to focus on the primary bedroom -- the bedroom that the adults buying the home will call theirs.
2) The garage
Even the most die-hard car or shop fan will only poke their head into the garage and scan it to determine what cars can fit. So as long as it isn't completely stuffed with extra items, you're fine.
(In fact, we've sometimes had our stager move existing furniture into the garage and when buyers take a look at the garage, they don't seem to bat an eyelash.)
When you're getting your home ready to sell, and you bring in a stager (or you take the DIY staging route), focus on the kitchen and dining rooms, living room/spaces, and primary bedroom.
Don't worry about the kids' bedrooms. Clean them up and make them look nice, for sure -- but you don't need to have them painted and professionally staged. And with the garage, people are not expecting that to be pristine, either.
