Storm/Flood Drain Tips for Charleston's Hurricane Season

Every summer, Charleston lights up with sunshine, beach trips, and Southern charm, but with that comes the looming threat of hurricane season. Heavy rain, flash floods, and tropical storms are all part of the Lowcountry experience, and for many homeowners and business owners that means one thing: water damage risk.

One often-overlooked line of defense? Your storm drains.

Why Clean Storm Drains Matter in the Lowcountry

Charleston is no stranger to flooding, especially during late summer and fall. Clogged storm drains or yard basins can quickly become overwhelmed during even a short afternoon downpour. When water can’t drain properly, it can lead to:

  • Water pooling around your foundation or crawl space
  • Flooded driveways, sidewalks, and parking lots
  • Erosion and landscape damage
  • Moisture intrusion, mold, and water damage indoors

By the time you notice standing water, it might already be too late. Many homeowners in the area rely upon professional hydro jetting services to clean out their drain systems and make sure that they are prepared for the heavy rains.

What Is Hydro Jetting?

Hydro jetting is a high-pressure drain cleaning method that uses water to blast away the debris that causes clogs in storm drains, sewer lines, and underground pipes.

Debris that hydro jetting clears out:

  • Tree roots
  • Packed leaves and yard debris
  • Sediment, sand, and construction runoff
  • Sludge and organic buildup

Unlike traditional snaking, which often just pokes a hole through the blockage, hydro jetting scours the full interior of the pipe for a deep, effective clean using high pressure water. The end result? Your drainage system regains its full flow, and you regain peace of mind knowing that your systems are prepared for the next rainfall.

Do You Need Hydro Jetting Services? Schedule before the next storm!

If your property has any of the issues listed above, or has a tendency of backing up during rainfall, then it’s a strong candidate for hydro jetting before the next storm hits. Storm drain maintenance isn’t something you want to put off, especially in Charleston where flash floods can hit with little warning. As plumbing and draining experts, we offer timely inspections and hydro jetting services throughout Charleston and the surrounding Lowcountry.

Water scares me.  We clean gutters and drains monthly. Water comes in several directions into my property.  We have berms to move it after it comes out of the gutters, directing it away from the house and into ditches at the street.  My builder put a lot of thought into how he placed the house on the lot and it shows.
