With summer in full swing, there's no better time for landowners and nature lovers to explore the rewarding world of fruit trees. Whether you own acreage in northern Arizona or a cozy cabin getaway, planting fruit trees can turn your property into a fruitful investment—literally and figuratively.

Why Plant Fruit Trees This Summer?

Summer isn’t just about BBQs and pool days—it's also prime time for planning and prepping for fall fruit tree planting. In warmer regions like Arizona, late summer through early fall is one of the best times to get fruit trees into the ground. This gives the roots a chance to settle before winter and promotes stronger spring growth.

Plus, fruit trees increase property value and support sustainability. Imagine stepping out of your luxury home in Arizona and picking fresh peaches or figs from your own backyard. Pure bliss.

Best Fruit Trees for Warm Climates

If you’re living in a hot, arid climate like Arizona, here are a few low-maintenance, drought-tolerant fruit trees that thrive:

  • Fig Trees – Love the heat and need minimal watering.
  • Pomegranate Trees – Excellent for dry, desert environments.
  • Peach Trees – With a little care, they flourish in full sun.
  • Citrus Trees – Lemons and oranges do well in Arizona's southern zones.

Lifehack: Use Mulch and Shade Wisely

During Arizona’s blazing summers, young fruit trees need extra care. Use mulch generously to retain moisture, and consider temporary shade cloths for protection during heatwaves. Drip irrigation can make a huge difference in water conservation and tree health.

This is good advice to share. I would love to have a fig tree in our yard.

We had on when I was a kid and enjoyed the bountiful supply of figs.

There’s nothing like picking fresh ones right off the tree. Hope you get to plant one again soon!
